'Loser' vs 'Looser'!

Nothing irks me more than the misspelling of lose vs loose. To hone our reader's skills better as an editor it compels me to distinguish between the two.

So here you go:

LOOSE: His pants are loose. As in tar pants loose.
LOSE: His pants are lose. As in tar pants haray geche.

LOOSE: We will loose india bd series. As in we will give some window to let the selectors work out the india bd series,.
LOSE: We will lose india bd series. As in we will get our ax whopped.

LOSER: He is getting loser. as in he is becoming idumb
LOOSER: He is getting looser. as in he is becoming more drunk or from a gay perv pov. the jama is getting looser. chiH!

So there folks. That rounds up difference between a loser and a looser.

On a cricket forum, I get peeved about he following:

Two other common mistakes here on BC that gets my dander up. What's a dander? Look it up.

Gong instead of gang. Gong is the big round metal thing that you hit with a hammer to make a sound, while gang is what most people mean here - the organized group of criminals.

Congrates - NO, no, no! The short form is congrats. NO E! That so grates on my nerves.

Caveat: I realize that for most of us, English is not the first language and all mistakes are excusable but there is no harm in learning the correct way.

Many Bangalis have issues with Z vs J, BH v V, Ph v F, as well as s and sh.

These are called sibilants or stridents and in most languages there is a trend towards one or the other.

There is NO f or v sound in Bangla just as there is no PH or BH sound in English.

While you do hear many say fool for ফুল , it really should be phool.

On the other hands, Westerners have difficulties with saying ভালবাসা , which ends up sounding like valobasha or balobasha. Of course, in some Bengali dialects the word is also pronounced as valobasha.

However, whether V is wrong not would depend on how we define Bangla transliteration using Roman alphabets. Since we do not have the /v/ sound in Bangla, we could, for typographical simplicity, say that V would be pronounced as /bh/ when we transliterate Bangla.
