Terrible last two days for my friend here from Sendai. Just got confirmation last night that her parents are alive, but in shelter now. Its completely cutoff. No electricity, no gas, no internet, no food. Their house- gone. Washed away. So, depressing.

And those places are very cold, its snowing now out there. No gas, no electricity means no warm up system, so cant even sleep well at night. In TV they showed people are in temporary shelter having just 1 piece of bread, half of an apple a day, almost no hot/warm food. Its so sad watching those suffering faces.

As Poorfan mentioned about the health impact that could cause due to this incidence. They have mentioned that it won't be like Chernobyl where massive amounts of radioactive materials were released into the environment resulting in a radioactive cloud that spread over much of Europe. Lots of people got sick during that time in Belaruse, Russia, Ukraine and other European part and resulted cancerous disease, who knows whether it impacted in other places or people who are exposed. For Japan, some brave workers still working hard to prevent further worsening of the situation. But they should seek help from the experts who dealt with Chernobyl. Probably they are already doing it.

Another source from World Health Organization mentions that..."the average person is exposed to about 3.0 millisieverts (mSv) a year of radiation, from naturally-occurring, medical and other sources. But monitoring at the Fukushima Daiichi site has recorded radiation as high as 400 millisieverts an hour -- a level known to be a risk to human health.Exposure to 1,000 millisieverts (1 Sievert) of radiation can cause radiation sickness.
