A dilemma indeed - we cannot spare a batsman of his class while we cannot continue with such keeping.

you need less wicket keeping ability in ODI compared to test matches where wicket-keeping is a specialized job. In ODI, batsman-wicket-keeper can do the job done. If Mushy's keeping is not good enough for the ODIs he should not be in the test team as a keeper, why you people are not starting threads to drop him from the test team first.

Mushy is a too good batsman for a team like BD. We should encourage him (keep patient with him) so that he sort out his limitations with gloves. Team balance will be better with him in the team.

i voted no
Mushfique is one of the better batsman in the team but sometime he is too slow for odi and t20. If he continues his failour behind stump then someone like Dhiman/Anamul/Shaagir will replace though they are not better batters like Mushy. If Nayeem bats ahead of wktkeeper then we dont need a good wktkeeper batsman than a good wktkeeper. I think Dhiman is a good lower order batsman than Mushy as he is not a good big hitting batsman.
But I think Anamul wl grab this position after 2/3 years.

As Mushy will have to play most of his test matches in subcontinent he will have to face lot of spin rather than pace.As keeping against spin is very tough so i think it will be very tough for him to survive in test cricket as a keeper so i have made this pool about ODI survival not in test survival.

I see a little bit of hope with mushy after his performance as a wicketkeeper on the 5th ODI, I thought he was OK in that game.

We just don't have a better wk keeper batsman. Batting matters for the wk in ODIs. Dhiman's batting is rubish, Mithun yet to be proven.

Mushi will face more problem keeping his position in tests as a specialist wk, I guess. Dhiman is a better choice for tests IMO.

In west indies and Zimbabwe he kept well and i was happy with his keeping it showed some promise and improvement for him but in home series he was very ordinary.Only cause behind it was keeping against spin in spinning track. He have to face this type of situation a lot in his career. So a question of survivous rose. But still i think he is improving and
I want to be on your group i also want to say he will survive as keeper.

We have no one better...so yes. Dhiman's batting is plain crap. He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the national team until he learns to bat.

Mushy tries, he is a hard working cricketer, BCB should try to give him more training with an established overseas WK who could really coach him properly. I dont see why they cant hire a consultant for a few weeks to correct Mushy's mistakes. Mushy is one of my favourites, the WI crowd fell in love with him in 2007 WC, such a little fella chirping all the time keeping the fielders on their toes and encouraging the bowlers.
I know that Mushy is aware of his limitations and will try his best to improve, but dont write him off.
I thought that Dinesh Ramdin of the WI was the laziest WK and no good as a batsman, but he has improved a lot in 2 yrs, now I am impressed by his keeping and batting, so give Mushy a chance.

why only Mushy? They can train other wktkeepers as well. Someone like Rodney Marsh should be brought for one month programme to teach them. Khaled Masud's help also can be useful

Can someone list the possible candidates as wicketkeepers. The best ones in the current domestic game and the ones with the highest averages so we can at least do some kind of statistical comparison.

Also who is generally regarded as the best wicketkeeper at the moment? (I'm talking wicketkeeping only and not how good a batsman they are)

most likely mushy will be around for a while. unless dhiman does something extraordinary with the bat. we just can't afford to have dhiman on the team just because he's a better wicket keep than mushy, but also its going to cost us a lot to have mushy on the team as a wicket keeper. this is really a big dilemma. i guess the only option is to hope some how mushy will get better in terms of keeping.

You need a specialist behind the stumps, but he can't be a rabbit.

Look at Chadwick Walton, very good keeper, but an absolute rabbit with the bat.

Mushfiqur is one of the better bats in the ODI unit, but his batting is nothing to write home about, remember this is Zimbabwe.

Train a batsmen only player to be the keeper ( Tamim, Zunaed, Nayeem), they surely wont do a worse job than Mushfque. And play an extra batsman (aftab) or an allrounder (alok) in his place... just like India did in the past with Dravid.

Mushy is a player who can perform with bat any day. as far as keeping, he will improve and he has shown that.
He's not going anywhere soon.

i think for the time being he will survive, i think for him to be knocked out of the ODI team the player to replace him has to be a better keeper and on par with the bat (or better). dhiman has the keeping skills but i'm no longer confident in his batting, mithun probably isn't ready with the gloves or the bat. but i think in tests there is a much greater chacne that mushy will be made a specialist batsman and dhiman brought in as the keeper.

I agree one hundred percent. There are ofcourse a few destinctive disadvantages for mushy as keeper such as 'Height', but overall for his age he is a very matured individual. He shows pride when playing such as his constant blabbering annoying the batsmen into a state of confusion and inspiring our players. His batting my opinion holds his magic. Not many player in this bangladeshi team have the patience in the crease that he occupies. For us we cannot change him, No way! It would change our winning combo. His average doesnt say much, but believe me he is a much better player then what many think.

In no doubt he falls into the category of shakib, rock , tamim.
