Default A look back--Thorpe Comments-- What did it mean?

A look back..
I am sorry, I was not in this board during the first test. Graham P. Thorpe made this comments about flood light failure during his interview with Cricinfo while the first test was on..

".................. We'd have loved to have picked up two or three wickets tonight, but it wasn't to be. We certainly don't imagine anything untoward was going on behind the scenes …"

I had this query in mind, what Thorpe meant by "anything untoward"?

What he and other English players implied in the interviews is, they suspect, to save the batsmen, lights were intentionally tweaked to not work.

However, I don't think BCB is that desparate yet.
