Default BREAKING: Ashraful banned for 8 years!

It's all over Facebook. This is good news!

Read Dhaka Tribune's report here and ESPNCricinfo's report here.

ESPNCricinfo just tweeted it:

On this day back in 2005, Ashraful scored a ton against Australia in the Natwest series. Here is the scorecard.

What a day this is for Ashraful!

Three of them suspended. So in effect a 5 year ban.

A lenient sentence I suppose. People have been banned permanently for doing the same thing.

Well, 8 years ban is unacceptable, 3 to 5 years were more appropriate. It was clearly a calculated vengeance, rather than appropriate sentence, to keep him out of cricket. Ashraful should go to the higher court.

5 years or 8 years. His career is over. This is the end of Mohammed Ashraful. It was fun while it lasted.

Does the verdict count the days elapsed during the trial or does it start from the day the judgment was announced? That already takes away close to 2 years of time.

Should've been a life ban.

I hope in 8 years either Bangladesh stops playing cricket or becomes so good that we won't even remember this guy's name.

A proven Fixer should never ever be allowed to represent the National team again. Old habits die hard.

If the ban was only for one BPL match, I would say 8 years is harsh. But he has been fixing games for long long time, including international matches. He should have been banned for life. So, 8 years is actually pretty light punishment.

I stand corrected - the ban is for only four BPL matches. One year reduced because of procedure delay, so effectively he has 7 years ban left. Either way, don't want to see this morally bankrupt person anywhere near Bangladesh cricket again.

According to the CI report, the 'suspension' begins from May last year so he's served one year of his 5 years already. (I say 5 as I assume he will take part in "authorised anti-corruption education or rehabilitation programme under ICC, BCB or ACC" so as to reduce his sentence)

Ashraful (and the others) have 21 days to file an appeal to a higher court but according to his Counsel, those 21 days will only run from the date on which the detailed judgment is delivered by the Tribunal.
