My friend Manzur Ahmed: An epitome of a gentleman
Shameem Hassan
As we mourn the passing of BCB CEO Manzur Ahmed, BanglaCricket member Shameem Hassan pens a heartfelt tribute to his friend and team-mate.

For those who do not remember our author: Shameem Hassan is, by his own admission, an 'alter kocker' (Yiddish for 'old fart'); He is old enough to have played cricket in the Mymensingh League in 1970. He has played for BUET and have also played the Dhaka league, mostly in the 2nd division with occasional years in the 1st division. He had been out of touch with cricket for 20 years having left Bangladesh in 1983 but rediscovered his passion for cricket several world cups ago. He once again became a cricket fanatic and renewed his cricket vows in St. Lucia in 2004. He goes by the nick "Rumee" in the BanglaCricket forums.

Nice article. Thank You for sharing...
I heard that he was under tremendous pressure because of BPL and that pressure was too much for him to handle. May Allah forgive him and grant him Jannat

Nice article. I also remember his banana shots. He scored a number of direct goals from those corner kicks. As a wicket keeper, his flying dive on the right side was also spectacular. In those days, next to Dhaka League, inter-university cricket was the most popular event. When Monju Bhai was captain, BUET was able to beat mighty Dhaka University several times. Those were very sweet moments to the BUET students. BUET had several national stars in the teams that time. Here are some of the names: Mahbub Anam (current BCB v. President), Saad (ex manager of national team), Mizan, Mashuque, Anjan ....
Let me share some of my memories. For my father's job, we used to live in Tangail during the early 70s. Because Mirzapur was very close, my brother (Monju Bhai's friend) and Monju Bhai used to visit us very frequently from Cadet College during the short breaks to play in the Tangail Cricket League. They used to play for Salahuddin Club ( named after a liberation war martyr). They were probably 16/17 years old. In those days all district towns had very popular soccer and cricket leagues. Tangail clubs used bring star players like Raquibul, Badshah, etc.. Also that time the difference between the "Dacca" kids and the "Mofasaal" kids were very distinct. Monju Bhai with his playing style, walking style, clothings, etc became a mini star in that small town. As a student of local Bindu Bashini school I heard my classmates talking about his batting, how he shout "How-saat", etc. etc.. Monju Bhai also had a passion for that club. He used to come and play for that club for the important matches by taking special permission from the college. He also did not forget Salauddin Club later when he became a star player in Dhaka league. He went several time to play there. He never took any money from that club.

Excellent article with some unknown informtion about the person. I feel, Our cricket couldn't extract much benefits (In Comparison to what he had, to give us) from him, its a failure of BCB and all of us. Wish he continued living for our cricket... I have a new found respect for him ..
It could have been the incapable and corupts of BCB ... even LK .. ...
May Allah grant him mercy ...
