1. Parise's trying to convince Suter to back out of Detroit so that they can sign with Minny together.
2. If Suter's not convinced and decided to sign with Detroit, then Parise is likely to sign with Pittsburgh.
3. Detroit is considering Semin and Doan offensively and Carle defensively as plan B.

Kenny would be in deep shite if can't get Carle and Semin now. I hear he may be going for Nash as well.

Both Parise and Suter are excellent players capable of greatly improving any team and make the better teams in the league genuine contenders. But they're not the best players in the league or even in their old teams. Yet they've been paid as such with sky high expectations, and I'd be surprised if they meet those in Minny by winning the Cup anytime soon.
I see Minny making the playoffs regularly but they won't win the Cup unless they sign a few more big names in every position. They simply don't have the funds to do that now, but great payday for a couple of excellent American players cashing in well beyond their true worth.
Kenny better put a plan together targeting Weber and Malkin if and when they become available or lose his job.

Parise 13 years 98 mil 7.5 per year Suter 13 years 98 mil 7.5 per year.

Minnesota Wild's front office: "We heard you like the 4th of July, so we signed the top 2 Americans to an American team on America's day."

Its fine from Pens POV. Signing Parise to a long term deal meant perhaps the end of Malkin. Which will not happen. He will get locked up long term next year. I will not sign Semin. He is not a Bylsma type player. Doan could be a stop gap situation. Nash is a big NO. They will ask the moon and we will not give. Bobby Ryan intrigues me. Ducks need defensive prospects and we do have that. He is young, a right hand shot, great goal scorer. Something to ponder.
Happy for Chuck Fletcher and Mike Yeo, both formerly assistants of Shero and Bylsma. And, at least they haven't signed in the East...
Actually it makes a lot more sense for them to go to Minny. Dealing with legitimately high expectation from Detroit or Pittsburgh fans isn't the type of pressure you wanna handle right away, especially after being overpaid.
This may sound like sour grapes but it honestly isn't. Even if Kenny fails completely, I have enough faith in the depth of our formidable pipeline not to be too upset. Organic growth happens faster in Detroit and we'll need our existing guys to step up.

Thanks for the wishes Leafs PWN ! We went to brunch earlier and I was on my phone the whole time checking twitter, which prompted the wifey to say, " who is this Parise you keep talking about ? "..I just said after the news broke, " You don't have to worry about him no more " !!
That's just the going price for D. That's why Wideman got 5.
Can you imagine what Webber will command if he becomes a UFA? 130 mil + ?
That cap keeps rising, along with the floor, and some of the lower rung teams low on salary have no option but to spend more. I am sure when the time comes in two years, Letang is staring at $6-7 mil per year.
In the end, both Suter and Parise took less to sign with Minny, provided they were together. Suter always maintained he wanted to be in the West. That's why everybody was convinced he would go to Detroit, considering how much money they had under the cap. Parise situation was a bit tricky. I don't think he wanted to come to an Atlantic team like Pens and face Devils six times a year. He said either Devils or going home to Minny. Gotta respect that.
I do not think Pens will go into a bidding war for Nash, or sign Semin. Now, Ryan seems a possibility but that clown wants to play for Philthadelphia. I think we sit still and do some low end signing. Team is definitely weaker without Staal and Michalek to some extent. But, we have three months to address it..
I don't think he'll get 130 M. He'll get more than 100 M though. I think around 110 M is probably the max.
He's better than Suter, but the not THAT much better. I think a cap hit of 8 - 8.5 M/YR for him would be the most anyone would be willing to do.
The rising cap, and 6 M extra cap space is the reason for these crazy contracts.

Carolina Hurricanes are no longer persuing Rick Nash. Cost way too high. CBJ believed to be after Jeff Skinner. Non-starter.
Howson apprently wanted Letang + Roster forward ( probably Tyler Kenedy ) + Simon Depress and picks. Obviously a non-starter at the moment you mention Letang. This is not gonna end up well for CBJ. You have a disgruntled player wearing C and wants to get out. Howson needs to realize that the return for great players are never equal. But, this guy is stubborn and he may hold up till trade deadline..

Looks like we'll have to rely on our homegrown talent yet again. Well, that pipeline gave us Lidstrom, Datsyuk and Zetterberg among other Cup winners and I'm OK with that. Great chance for guys like Smith, Kindl and Nyquist to step up. We'll do fine if Franzen and Quincey stop under performing for once and Datsyuk and Zetterberg score more.

We signed Quincey for $3.55 million in 2012-13 and $4 million in 2013-14. Better make yourself worth the money dude!

Nashville All-Star defenseman Shea Weber has agreed to an offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers, the Flyers announced in a Thursday morning press release.
TSN's Darren Dreger, who first reported the story, says the deal is for 14 years and more than $100 million. Those terms were not confirmed in the club's press release.

Looks like Asaad's home team's in the full self-destruct countdown after becoming a contender.
Quote:
The Nashville Predators have only two choices -- match the offer sheet captain Shea Weber signed with the Philadelphia Flyers, or accept the compensation.
They've got seven days to come up with a decision -- and a lot to consider before they do.
The offer sheet Weber, a restricted free agent, signed with the Flyers is reportedly a heavily front-loaded 14-year, $110 million contract. If Nashville passes, it is believed they would get four first-round draft picks from the Flyers during the next five years. The compensation package is tied to the average annual value of the contract offered.
General manager David Poile said in a statement the organization's intention has always been to match any offer sheet to retain Weber, but, "due to the complexity of the offer sheet, we will take the appropriate time to review and evaluate it and all of its ramifications in order to make the best decision for the Predators in both the short- and long-term."
