Default ICC Trophy, 2005

One of my favourite series takes place in less than two weeks. One of the most important campaigns of recent times, 12 teams are taking place for 5 places in the World Cup so we'll be sure to see the teams performing at their best.

I'll be supporting Denmark hoping they make the World Cup . The other teams I'll be going for are Holland, Scotland, Bermuda and PNG

My prediction
1. Ireland
2. Scotland
3. Holland
4. USA
5. UAE

A fair assessment for five teams from the tournament I think but it can't happen due to the tournament structure. Scotland, Namibia, Canada and the Netherlands are in the same group. Two teams in this group definitely get to the World Cup. The third and fourth teams might get the 5th spot through a play-off with the teams placed in these positions in the other group. So at least one, perhaps two, of these teams will not make it.

As for the other group Ireland would be favourites, then UAE probably or perhaps USA for the top two spots.

Nepal failed in two attempts to qualify, the Asian section and then the 'last-chance' qualifying tournament.

You can find the official tournament web site at

Battle on for last berths

Quote:
In Group A, hosts Ireland have a strong line up and boast of impressive form displayed over the past few seasons. They achieved a record-breaking 10 successive wins in 2003 and 2004.

They will be boosted by the presence of Middlesex's Edmund Joyce, the first county cricketer to reach 1,000 runs in the ongoing English county season.

The UAE have a record of surprising higher rated teams. They played in the 1996 World Cup after winning the 1994 ICC Trophy in their first attempt.

Batsman Arshad Ali and fast bowler Ali Assad Abbas, who was the leading wicket taker in the ICC Intercontinental Cup last year, are players to watch out for.

In Group B, Canada are strong contenders with the tag of being the only team in the tournament to have won a match in the World Cup, beating Bangladesh in the 2003 tournament.

Captain John Davidson is the trump card in the Canadian line up and fans and supporters alike would be hoping that he would go on to repeat of his magical 67-ball century against the West Indies.

Defending champions Holland also have a strong outfit and are currently coached by the legendary former Australia captain Bobby Simpson.

They have also achieved victories against England and the West Indies in the 1990s and had also qualified for the both the 1996 and the 2003 World Cups.

I hope Scotland will give us a chance to teach them a good lesson in West Indies. If not that, then Canada. I don't have any grudge against Canada for what happened in WC'03, our players were only one to be blamed, but we still have a point to prove against them.

Scotland is a better side.... They have played in county cricket... I hope they make to the World Cup.
UAE is also an emerging nation. I wish they get test status and ODI status very soon...

Currently there are 4 nations in Asia with test status. I wish there are 5 to 6 nations with test status.. Then asian countries will have upper hand in cricket

Gold! Let's hope he stays there

On topic:

Ik hou van Netheland. Scotts are my 2nd pick. I had no idea Oman played cricket as well. I don't know how much PNG have improved since the days we used to play them in the ICC trophy. They used to put up some good fight against us in late 90s.

Yep I agree with all of those. I think tomorrow will be pretty straight forward although Denmark v USA and Scotland v Canada could be interesting.
