Brian Lara To Retire!!
Check ou this saying that Brian Lara will retire after the world cup.......
http://cricketworldcup.indya.com/Dis...ws_20070411_87
Quote:
Lara to retire from one-day cricket
West Indies captain Brian Lara has confirmed he will retire from one-day cricket after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 following yesterday's 67-run defeat against South Africa. The loss in Grenada ended all realistic hopes of the hosts reaching the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 semi-finals.
"I think this is the end of my one-day career, for sure," Lara told the ICC. "I honestly feel my game is over and we should give it to one of the younger players. It's really tough playing one-day internationals out there.
"After the World Cup the next one-day tournament for the West Indies is in June in England and I'd love to sit back and watch and see the team do well. I want to leave a team that plays better. And that is still my hope."
Lara has vowed to carry on playing Test cricket past his 40th birthday and said he wanted to leave the one-day team on a high note. "These might be my last two one-day internationals but I still want to see the team moving out of this competition learning something from it and that's all I can hope for. It's demoralising, yes, but I want to see certain things happen and I want to see the team move on."
"I thought we tried our best. But South Africa played better than us. They were in a do-or-die situation; they came up trumps, showed their class and why they were number one [in the International Cricket Council one-day rankings] until a few days ago. They were outstanding, and we were outplayed."
Lara has played in 297 one-day internationals since his making his debut against Pakistan in Karachi in 1990, scoring 10,354 runs, at an average of 40.60, with a highest score of 169.

http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/westi...ry/297853.html
no further indication about what level he could play.

important dig bro, thanks.
excerpt: "Lara also indicated that he could be playing cricket again in six to eight months although he refused to be drawn who for and at what level. "I think I am going to play cricket again. If I go six or eight months without cricket I would lose it and I don't want to lose it yet."
great avatar BTW.

It'll be a mistake if Lara returns. I doubt he'll be able to perform to his previous level.

another "mike tyson" or "michael jordan situation" in the making ? ... i think not. he still has a few more years of quality cricket left in him. the WI board and those incessant public jabs from the likes of holding just made him take an "emotional" rather than a "rational" decision IMHO. anyway, we'll see what happens.

looks like he's set to do just that.
quote-
Lara feels that he fulfilled personal goals, but regrets not seeing the West Indies reach their full potential.
"I've done what I could do so I'm happy with me. As a team, we've not been able to climb out of the doldrums so that will remain on my mind. That does not rest well with me. I leave West Indies cricket with my head held high.
"I've tried my best and I've worked my arse off. Maybe I could have done things differently but I've done things my way -- that's the most important thing."
here's the AFP dig from the DS bro: -

Personally, I would love to be in the same team with her
Having said that, I'm clueless who she is...I THINK I saw her once!

Even in his final test match he played some awsome cricket showing the world that why he is the best batsman of modern era. Thus if he retires I got a strong feeling that he wil do very well. Remember this man scored a tripple century at the age of 34.
Never say a final word about any genious!

He is a genious. He is not a team player. Think of a company. You are a genius worker. So you are given the head post. But due to some egoistic problem and board imtermingling you could not run office for long 5/6 years. The profit curve going lower. The company to save face is unable to fire you. You are such a good worker. But you just do not have the Mojo to lead. Then what.

True, he is not a good leader but as a batsman he deserves a place in the WI team. Thats what I would love to see.

Lara was never selfish, he always wanted WI to be on the pinnacle, not his batting!

i agree and give him the benefit of the doubt when he says this: -
"I've tried my best and I've worked my arse off. Maybe I could have done things differently but I've done things my way -- that's the most important thing."
i don't think the bit about "doing things his way" necessarily demonstrate a selfish trait either, because of this: -
"It's that we don't have a good infrastructure for young guys to develop. West Indies have a great under-15 side. I know a 16-year-old guy in Trinidad who's awesome but I worry for him because of the facilities.
"A mediocre Australian cricketer at 17 or 18 will be slapping everyone all over the world five years later. If you don't have facilities and you don't have employment then you have a negative atmosphere."
i have no reason not to believe him.
