1997 ICC trophy win has been a milestone for Bangladesh cricket as this is the tournament which has established cricket in the mind of Bangladesh people and also set up the future for our cricket.BCB has given a great reception to the heroes who were a part of that team. The pictures are taken from that reception.

Well, if you really want to invite someone, there are other ways of reaching a person than the phone.
Anyway, I'm not saying BCB didn't want the coach there, I'm sure they would've tried other ways to reach him (maybe). I am just saying, it would've been better had he been there.
Its interesting to not see Saber Hossain Chowdhury, who I think was the real architect of BCB and the professionalism that started off.. Yes, not seeing Gordon there is also noticable. You don't just call up someone on the phone to invite for such event; BCB couldve easily contacted WICB or send an official envoy from the embassy to invite. Nevertheless, Gordon was ditched by the board immediately after his comments about Bangladesh being promoted too early for Test Cricket.
Honoring the naional heroes definitely couldve come earlier. These days 5 lakhs is 3 nights stay at Coxs bazar with freinds but its still a gesture!! I am hoping that we honor them with giving them coaching, mentoring like responsiblities as well..
Thanks to all 15 players, coaches and support members for bringing Glory for our country. Thanks to BCB for arranging a good function to tribute our past heroes.
I remember buying lots of newspapers the next day(janakhanta, ittefaq, the independent) - and keeping the newspaper clippings.
Only for my mother to throw them away a couple of years ago, when I was out of the country. She apparently didn't notice I had placed them in a shoe box with a huge label on it saying, 'Important - Do Not Touch'

I'm pretty sure 'called' here is in a general sense rather than a literal one. Maybe Greenidge didn't want to come?
5 lakh per person is not a bad sum of money at all. that's 75 lakh taka for the 15 man squad, not including the large function itself. Any more than that and people would be complaining that this money could have been put to better causes - like more academies, coaches, grounds, competitions, etc.
Brings back memories. 8 year old boy listening to the live commentary in a small radio. The whole nation was listening to them. Few days later, my cousin was born. I begged my aunt to name him Shanto and they did. For real, that's his nick name now.
