Rana did much better than I expected. I didn't think of him being of test quality before but he held up well along with rafique. there, we're talking about rana.
i always wondered why they never played moni-rafique in tandem at home during all those early years. that would have been much better than the half baked pacers we have had to offer to the cricketing world. Guess the selectors are learning about playing two spinners, better late than never, but this really wasn't rocket science.

rana played very well too. he gave rafique all the support. very dissapointed on the fast bowlers though. tarek aziz was just terrible and taposh didnt play good either.i hope they dont bring alamgir kabir back for the next test. maybe shahadat can make his debut.

Not only 3 wickets, he has also taken 2 very sharp catches at first slip.
The guy is a fighter, and I am sure he will score good runs in the 2nd inning.
Wish him all the luck.

Rana did excellent job, but his batting was horrible.
I think selectors did a mistakes not taking another spinner in the team. There should be 3 spinners.

at some point i used to loose my voice trying to yell for rana in the forum. thinking that he deserve a permanent place in the team. then, he kind of faded in last few days. i was afriad he'll disappear like many others of our team. i was more of relieved that he performed.

Well many of our other batsmen failed too, including the so-called "top order". So I wouldn't particularly blame him for the 1st innings batting failure. The thing that impresses me the most about this guy is his temperament. Like Pilot, he has this fighting spirit. He values his wicket, and has played some valuable innings in the tests. Let's just hope he doesn't turn out to be another Kapali.

A very valid point. Why didn't he?
A 3rd spinner will come to bat at what position? Our tail end is only going to be weakened, on the other hand, if our top and middle order can't get the runs, then why should we expect our lower order to get them?
Alamgir Kabir is not in the 2nd test match squad.

i cant agree with u more. U are right in saying he values his wicket. Rana and mashud bat soemtimes, like its life and death, they have this grit about them and determination, look at the how many balls they face for makin 30 runs, sometimes in the 100s. If more of our players had this, say kapali, they would not just improve but get the respect from fans as well .

rana is also a great left arm spinner.
actually other teams don't found any good left arm spinner in their country. but bangladesh have 5/6 good left arm spinner. rafique is the best among them. so we always talk about rafique. and don't care about others. but they are also good. rana is also very good. he also did good work for his team and support rafique :P. I again talking about rafique while i want to write something for rana :P.

Rana is most consistent player in BD team, I always seen him as a fighter. Hope he continues to improve and show what he can do.
Well done Rana

In the late sixties and early seventies India used to play with 3 or even 4 spinners. The reason was simple - they had 3 world class spinners and so was the 4th.
The names: Bedi, Prassanna, Chandrasekhar and Venkataraghavan.
There was no point in taking military medium pacers just for the sake of it. Kunderam, Pataudi etc. all opened the bowling for a couple of overs to take the shine off. Only the advent of ODI's brought about some reasonably good medium pacers like Madan Lal, Roger Binny etc. Of course, Kapil Dev emerged in 1978.
Therefore, taking Tareq just because we need a "new ball" bowler does not make sense. He must be reasonably accomplished. You can get by with a few tidy overs in ODI's as run saving is also an element of the game in addition to taking wickets.
Under the circumstances, Mushfique should handle that part of the job. His economy rate is very good. He can also be the stock bowler to give the spinners a bit of rest when needed. Even spinning fingers get tired ! He can also bolster the batting a little !

taposh did not get wickets.. that's true..
but u have seen his bowing in this match?
he troubled the batsmen with some wonderful spells.. as he always does.
we still hav no replacement for him yet.. and even after Mashrafee comes back.. our duo is gonna b Mashree-Tapash

India played 4 spinners because they were good and India prepared spinning pitches that didnt assist any pace.

Fellas P L E A S E....The guy is an orthodox left arm spinner....His job is to BOWL & get WICKETS...Just treat him like Rafique...U know...if he gets some runs fine..we'll take it..if he doesn't..no problem...HE IS A BOWLER....!!!...So please don't compare him with Kapali & put unnecessary pressure on him...This is exactly how we & the selectors are destroying Kapali's career...The poor bloke was alwayz a leg spinner....Now look wot happened..Everybody has completely forgotten that he is a bowling allrounder & I reckon the bloke himself has forgotten how to bowl...He came into the Bangladesh side primarily as a bowler for cryin out loud....!!!..
