People gets depressed for all kinds of stupid stuff, including first world problems. For real clinical depression, I don't think any amount of online talking to or reasoning is going to help much. They should go see a shrink.

I think most of the time, the distinction between my-life-is-boring-depression and real clinical depression is quite obvious.

I am depressed cuz girls don't want me.... I don't think that's a first world problem because when I went to a third world country; BD girls still didn't want me..
