Default Big Match-ups

The Bangladesh and Zimbabwe team share many similarities. The average age of both teams are appreciably younger than the rest of international teams. They rely on their spinners to restrict opposing teams, both teams are led by talismanic captains and aggressive but unpredictable batting line ups. So who are the key match-ups that would determine the outcome of this series?

1. Shakib vs. Chigumbura: in addition to leading their teams, both allrounders are also their teams most potent weapons. If Zimbabwe can prevent Shakib from taking wickets, the Bangladesh bowling suddenly does not look as threatening. How Chigumbura handles Shakib will go a long way in determining the contest.

2. Tamim Iqbal vs. Ray Price: Tamim is Bangladesh's best batsman and Price is Zimbabwe's most lethal bowler, especially in these piitches. Price is always up for a scrap and his team often relies on him to operate with the new ball during powerplays. Even while returning from injuries, don't expect Tamim to feel his way back while facing a spinner with the field up. It promises to be a compelling duel.

3. Brendan Taylor vs. Abdur Razzak: Taylor is an exceptional player of spin bowling. He uses his feet to go down the wicket, plays the sweep well and with the exception of Taibu, looks a class apart from the rest of the top order. Like Price, Razzak willl bowl in the mandatory powerplays and uses the skidder quite effectively. This promises to be an interesting match-up.

We win both the first two match ups, I think we lose the 3rd. I think its more valid to compare our bowlers with theirs and our batsmen with theirs.

#2 and #3 match-up would be better if it was like this: Tamim Iqbal vs Taylor and Price vs Razzak

You can ofcourse think of match ups with likes vs likes or between batsmen and bowlers. The latter route seemed more relevant to me, as the bowler batsmen duel will have more measurable winners and losers.

How about

SHAKIB VS Zim ... you all know that at the end of the day it all comes down to that man ... He was the obstacle for NZ's 4-0 loss and am sure he will be the obstacle for Zim on this series aswell
