Chess Olympiad begins in Spain

Nasif, just to add to my chess story. He then went ahead and beat me and a friend playing us simultaneously while blindfolded. This was during my early college days when Niaz was just finishing hgh-school. I moved on to Bridge as I could not afford the amount of time I needed to spend on Chess to become competitive.

This was during the days of when the also rans after Niaz were Younus Hassan, Rezaul Haq, Rezaul Haq and Jamilur Rahman. If memory serves my right, Younus was our first FIDE rated player.

Reefat and Rakib lost their respective games. I was hoping for a Rakib upset given the rating disparity isn't too much. Zia is still battling with ex-world champ Korchnoi.

Out of the free servers, I play at msn, pogo and yahoo. Also paying member at ICC and Playchess. Msn zone's interface sucks though.

Considering the fact that our boys are going to lose the first Test (if our batters dont make a miracle) against New Zealand, our chess girls had something different in mind while playing against Kiwi girls yesterday. Rani hamid and Parveen Seyda Shabana drew with Charmova Evgenia and Maroroa Sue when Sultana Zakia convincingly outplayed Courtney Helen to seal the overall victory against New Zealand Well done, Zakia!

As for Bangladesh, they lost to Italy (2.5-1.5) in round 9 where most pairs were close in rating.

FIDE has slightly different time controls for different types of tournaments.

For the Olympiad:

The time limit is 40 moves in 100 minutes, then 20 moves in 50 minutes and finally 10 minutes for all remaining moves. From move 1 30 seconds will be added after each move.

Thus there are no adjournments in these tournaments.

The Chess olympiad has different time controls from the FIDE site.

India screwed up badly in the 9th and 11th rounds to lose to Cuba and Israel. Even the defeat against Russia could have been avoided. Hopefully, we'll still finish in top 5
