Default Hockey thread (Field)

Well we start with 8-0 drubbing in the hands of South Africa. We didn't play bad. Missed a Penulty Stroke, lol, can you imagine? Had 8 penulty corners as well came out empty handed. This is going on in Russia in a four nation tournament. June 24, 2009.

Comedy continues. We lost to host Russia. I didn't know Russia played field hockey. 6-3. Fitness is a big issue. We were leading 2-1 at one point in the first half. The last two goals came from goal keepers inability. We have secured the last position.

Mijan bhai, there performance was pretty encouraging if you ask me.
You cant ask more from the bunch who havent played any sort of international matches in ages, barring the last tournament, which was sort of the beginning.

Even the coach said these boys does not even have the basic skills of hockey.
No wonder given we dont even have regular hockey league.

This German coach, Gerhard or something his name (sorry dude), is doing a lot for the team.
He coached for free first couple of months, then got a physio and specialised goalie coach for free.
Now he is plannin to take the boys to play in different clubs in Germany.
I dont care if those teams are in their F league, but i bet it would be a lot better than our Dhaka league.

Atleast the ball is rolling.

According to Inqilab report Hockey team claiming that they did good and showed improved performance and that first -8 match is easily understandable after that long tour.

Hope things go right and I believe here is one sport where we have the potential to reach the elites quickly.

LOL. Are you mentioning that because it was field hockey where 22 persons each have a stick to hang around with?

I've always thought Hockey is the other sport where we can really make our name internationally.
ONLY IF things went a bit better than whats happening now.

Exactly the kind of news we did not want to hear.

Our national hockey coach from Germany is leaving the team!!
There is only so much one man can do.
Unless we learn to help ourselves, no outsider can.

Go to the link to read the report from ittefaq.

20 players are going to Germany to play in their league and also take part in three-month long training.
This must be the best news for our Hockey in recent years.
They are supposed to be hosted by Scottland for an International match after the German endeavor.

I thought field hockey is for girls. They should start playing ice hockey instead.

EZ - let's lease some plane portion in the Himalayas from Nepal. Natural field will save money and worries of drastic weather change, power question, DST etc.

Us beating the Italians in filed hockey is less significant that Italy beating us in soccer. More like Cyprus or Thailand beating us in soccer.

But they are ranked 12 places above us with not that many nations playing the sports in regular basis.
