Something needs to be done about this. So many lives lost! I saw in the news mentioned the cracks to the building manager on Tuesday and he didn't do anything. Next day the building collapsed.

RAJUK do have some strict guidelines for new buildings. But I think places like Savar, Ashulia, Tongi don't fall under RAJUK and basically anyone can erect a buildings with 'para civil engineers' as someone said.

As long as Standards are not met when designing a building, the engineers and owners go unpunished for not adhering the the standard practice. And justice denied or delayed, we shall always face such tragedies....

A sad day for this country..

Just read that the manager told the workers that there was no risk or anything to worry about when the workers noticed big cracks the day before the collapse.

That manager guy should be held responsible for this

innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun.

very sad news, the problem in BD is awareness , and the lives of poor workers is so cheap to these powerful dbs .
even if there are signs of danger the people specially the poor people just have to leave with which makes me feel very sad.

Without any earthquake or other natural strikes!? Crap, I can't look at those pic.

And it's very unusual for me to look at so many civilians so close to the danger zone. I usually see caution tapes around the perimeter.

I had a chat with a friend, who happened to be on one of the medical teams to Savar, for the tragic building collapse. The death toll stands at ~100 at the moment, but the situation looks grim and bleak and according to him, it might double.

The bystanders are on the way of the various rescue teams and are hindering the progress considerably, which in his words, "might mean the difference between life and death."

And right now, though sufficient blood has been donated, we may need more for the tough days ahead.

So, here is requesting everyone to share this piece of knowledge in helping save as many lives as possible.

Thank you!

Human lives are very cheap in Bangladesh. It costs only TK 20,000.
Quote:
The government on Wednesday allocated Tk 55 lakh for the victims of Savar building collapse.

Tk 20,000 for the family of each dead and Tk 5,000 for each injured have been allocated, Abdul Wazed, director general of the Department of Disaster Management, told The Daily Star in the evening.

Rokto daan kore ashlam with friends and family. Khubi depressing, so much death.

But ekta clarification - shorkar/BGMEA will of course not give these people an appropriate amount of compensation - shotti bolte what is enough for a dead family member? Nothing Kintu, this tk.20,000 is not compensation for the deaths, it is a stipend for funeral expenses.

I'm not sure why some of the channels/print media left out that part.

Dhaka’s Additional Deputy Commissioners Iftekhar Hossain and Md Zillur Rahman Chowdhury started handing over the bodies from Enam Medical College in Savar to their relatives after 3pm after confirmation of their identities.

Chowdhury told bdnews24.com: “As the accident occurred in the morning, the relatives of the victims are asking for handover of the bodies immediately.”

He said that the process of returning the bodies was going on and the Enam Medical College and Hospital was issuing certificates.

The family of each victim is being given Tk 20,000 as burial cost.

A real sad day for Bangladesh.

Nothing will happen to these mass murderers. Political goons will always kill people and get rewarded.

How people become so inhuman! This is beyond belief. Something needs to be done, I don't know what as the government is full of idiots who won't do anything and will be busy to shift blames to others. This catastrophe may happen again as there are many more buildings that have been built by low quality material without conforming to any building code by these influential political goons. Will the youth of the country rise again like they did in Shahbagh? I hope they do and come out in numbers to save the countrymen.

I feel that I am getting desensitized to these events. I remember being really shocked when garment industry was burned down, but this time around I don't feel as shocked. Too many terrible incidents are getting associated with Bangladesh. Too many people are dying early, but we are not learning from our mistakes.

Shake the Mokha (or is it Mofo) till his brains falls into place (though he might not have any).

In most other countries, the Rana dude would have been hauled up before courts. In the end - the buck stops at his table.

Generations will take for our nation to improve. Won't happen over night. We can only pray for the lost souls because there is no hope of changing the system in near future. Ami shudhu bujhi na how do they get away saying stuff like what the home minister said ? What kind of f**kery is that ? Why is he not being questioned for saying such a stupid reasoning he put together.
