I respect his decision as much as I respect him as a cricketer and human being and I hope people also continue to support him at least on the field irrespective of what he does off the field. Having said all that though I feel he could have waited another couple of years or at least until the World Cup but anyway good luck captain on your new journey 👍

Like in every sport in any part of the world, fans pay for tickets, tv subscriptions etc to watch their teams. They have every right to voice their opinion on a players decisions, especially those that have a great potential to have consequences on the teams performance.

Mahrafee is not a legend of the game and and nor has he won a world cup. Heck he did'nt even win a bloody mickey mouse trophy for Bangladesh. He is not even the top 30-40 fast bowlers to come out of Asia, let alone the world. He is probably the only front line fast bowler scared to bowl at the death.

His greatest achievement was he went under the knife multiple times and returned to captain Bangladesh to good performances post 2015. We are still crap in Tests and T20s (formats he already retired/not good enough/liability). We have NOT won a single knock out match in any competition in ODIs.

This fake hero worshiping of stars in our country will be a primary reason why we cannot produce genuine superstars. Because he fought through injuries and bla bla, he must be having b@alls of steel. Oh he gave some seeds to the farmers in Narail, so he must be a good policy maker. He donated cricket gear to underprivileged children, he must be the next Imran Khan. He reported match fixing approaches to the ICC, so he must be a very honest man.

If he was really a 'leader', he should have shown some b@alls and retired right away like how he showed them when he retired from the T20s. Instead, he will now use the Bangladesh Captain role to promote his own political agenda. He is not my captain. His actions disgust me.

Why are you unable to separate Cricketer Mashrafe from Politician Mashrafe?

If Mash is automatically entitled for the support of all Bangladeshis because he has captained Bangladesh, by that logic, world cup winning captain Imran Khan should have been awarded the premiership automatically. He was not. He fought 20 years and even now has about 40% or less public support. Does it mean 60% of Pakistanis be sent to mental hospital?

Pro politician-Mash fans are quick to point out that Mash does not need the love and support of anti politician-Mash fans (i.e. the losers) while conveniently forgetting that anti politician-Mash fans do not owe their unconditional love for Mash or for any mortal.

Recently Virat Kohli, needless to say a world class batsmen, showed similar entitlement mentality when he asked an Indian in his social media page to leave India for liking AB de Villiars and Australian batsmen. Kohli was rightfully criticized for such entitlement mentality at Cricinfo:

I have no problem with negative comments when mash entered politics. It's not sports. Politician fame is not as feel good fame as sports/celebrity fame. it's the power that makes ppl run.

there was a vidoe of shakib in florida getting abused by a fan and then he replies back. If he can't simply tolerate some verbal abuse from a fan, i don't know how he is gonna cope being a politician. Your whole career is gonna be getting verbal abuse. Only thing is you have the power and with right power u can put your abuser behind bars :p

The overall consensus among majority of the general public is quiet neutral. These handpicked comments doesn’t reflect the majority sentiment. And thus can be quiet misleading.

I was in BD for the past month. Spoke to many diff people and attended bunch of events. It was a hot topic when Mash first announced it and was the topic of discussion in all of these social gatherings. Majority of people expressed Mash is a very honest person and there is a need of such figures in our politics. There were few negative opinions as well

There are more important things in life than cricket. If someone prioritize helping his country in a more significant way than by playing cricket, I think we should encourage that person.

Suddenly prioritizing has become very important and cricket became total meaningless when we are about to play a world cup with probably our best team in decades.

If there are more important things than cricket, he could have been a politician from the very beginning. And priority is relative, in the same vein it can be said that there are far more important things than politics.

It looks anti Amlig because Mash joined Amlig. Had he joined Bimpi, it would have been anti Bimpi.
