Default Default Whatmore SWOTs, "mba", reina and Gartner Magic Quadrant

Reinausagi's comment about Whatmore and SWOT analysis in the WI player's thread and all the discussion about our new "mba" punch-bag, I thought - "what if we did a business style analysis of our players?"

So, I spent a few miniutes applying the [in]famous Gartner Magic Quadrant analysis. The axes hardly needed to be changed. The X-axis sort of maps to class or style.

Some example:

Sujon: Neither much style not tremendous ability to execute. (sorry)
Ashraful: Lot sof class and style, but have not shown a consistent ability to execute
Pilot: Not too much cstyle but he has performed and has shown he can execute.

I just placed the players on the quadrant with very little throught. I'm sure I will revise them if I spend more than the 5 photoshop minutes.

who is Ashraful Islam?

I thought his fulll name was Mohammad Ashraful.

Zunaid, as much as you reminded us - it took you only a "little" time to do this....you aint gonna be excused from this:

you have too much time on your hand!

I still don't think Bashar has great leadership qualities. I think he needs to prove himself on that front.

zunaid, I think you're giving too much credit to our players! I would only place two of them - rafique and mashud - anywhere near quadrant 4!

'Gartner' is the name of the genius who created the 4 quadrants? Didn't know that, thanks.

Gartner's Magic Quadrant is a graphical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It depicts Gartner's analysis of how certain vendors measure against criteria for that marketplace, as defined by Gartner. Gartner does not endorse any vendor, product or service depicted in the Magic Quadrant, and does not advise technology users to select only those vendors placed in the "Leaders" quadrant. Gartner Magic Quadrant is intended solely as a research tool. This is
very influential when IT management evaluates potential vendors and considers technology purchasing decisions

According to Gartner, vendors listed as Leaders are doing well and have great prospects for the future. They have a long-term vision for high-availability services, coupled with service offerings, expertise and methodologies to fulfill that vision.

A bit off topic but ...

The Gartner Group is one of the leading information and technology resreach and analyst firms (hmm.. that sounds like I am shilling for them.. I am not). They focus on the information and technology industry.

Similar other firms include Giga, Forrester, Aberdeen, Yankee Group etc..

These firms do several things:

1. Write research reports on and analyzes that drive business and organizational success
2. Provides strategy and business conultation services like MckInsey and others
3. Measures and reports onn industry benchmarks
etc..

The Gartner Magic Quadrant has become a very sucessful "summary" report on a particular industry sector. Companies try to out their position in the quadrant as a marketing ploy. I believe they have even tried to "patent" the quadrant - the axes and the interpretations. Businesses do use the magic quadrant to get a quick market and competitive landscape view.

Ok. Feint.

I thought I would re-incarnate this old thread with a new chart.

Do note how old players have moved and where new players are showing up.

Good analysis Zunaid bhai. I suppose Ashraful is making some slow movement towards the right corner

Wanted to compare with the old chart but couldn't see it in your first post

Here it is, both the graphs. One, before my birth. And one, after my birth.

2004 version.

2007 version.

Hmm. I could see the image in my first post. But, anywhoo...

Pilot has dropped vertically down.

Hannan Sarker, Sahariar Hossain, Faisal Hossain no longer in the charts.

The only reason Rana is not on the new chart is to tease Rubu.

Nafees appears out of nowhere to hold prime real-estate.

Ash has moved higher on ability to execute but lower in the visionary scale.

Rafique is still where he was. Man, what a testament to this man. But we have two bowlers Masri and Razzak around him.

Shahadat does not hold hallowed ground.

Rajin Saleh has dropped his position. Is it because I do not see him anymore or is it because in relation to the new folks he is where he should belong.

I did not put a lot of the performers - not because they are not on my radar but because I could not fit them in.

Zunaid bhai, is your chart representing ODI only?

Otherwise, you are way too harsh on Habibul Bashar, he is the highest test run scorer in 2005 and second highest in 2006 (just 6 run short of SN).

I will recommend Shahadat hossain within the upper right square.
