Default New Free antivirus from microsoft

Maybe the days of slow and bulky kaspersky key are finally over for me.check it out:
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
If that page says beta tester limit has been reached, get it from here:
http://www.solidblogger.com/microsof...00-0-download/
This has got very positive reviews so far.
http://www.softpedia.com/progViewOpi...s-131683,.html

On another note, I just purged xp and vista from my system and installed windows 7. It rocks. But still ubuntu would remain my primary operating system.

Using windows 7 now as well. Quite good. Runs faster than vista for me on my laptop.

As for AV, I use avira.

Guys can you help me out? When I go to the setup for Security Essentials, it keeps on telling me that my Windows is not genuine. It tells me to go to some website to get it to be genuine. So I go there and the website tells me that the validation is complete and my Windows is now genuine. But yet when I try the setup again, it once again tells me that my Windows is not genuine. What do I do?

if you can't find it, you csn invoke it in a couple of ways

type and enter "taskmgr" from the run window

or do

ctrl-alt-delete and one of the menu option will be to start the Task manager.

Windows 7 feels great. In my opinion microsoft really looked hard into vista and addressed its main shortcomings. I have used every OS from 95 and I'd make a bold prediction that win7 is the best of the lot, specially when you throw in windows xp mode. On another note, Seven has some sweeping interface changes, most people will tell you about the suparbar, it's awesome, but will take some getting used to. There are neat tricks that make life really easy. For instance when you mouse over a window thumbnail in taskbar, all other windows become translucent glass. I'm using it frequently to peek at other windows without switching.
For me, the revolutionary feature has been how microsoft has pushed the library feature. It basically lets you make different collections of all your related folders, like video or pictures etc. It was there in vista betas, but was suppressed in the release. It takes some getting used to, but once I got the feel of it, it's improving my productivity a lot. Not having to browse through folders to dig up data is a big big plus.

The thing I don't understand is when I go to the Microsoft website, it tells me that my Windows IS Genuine. So why can't I download Windows Security Essentials? It makes no sense whatsoever.

During my short stay in Dhaka this month I went to IDB couple of times and found Kapersky almost in every shop. I do not really need it but may be for personal use in BD, does it worth 7000 taka which is almost 100 USD?

No. Its not worth 100 dollars. Might as well get a free one like avast, or avira, which are allmost as good.

O_w bhai, its TK.699 for 1 home PC per year, not 7000.

As for using genuine windows, I havent tried out the microsoft anti virus, and am not interested right now because my Avast! does a fine job. I only asked because any product microsoft launches these days has that annoying genuine advantage program trying to boss you around. I use a pirated windows copy on my mother's computer. Thats life in BD, we wont spend couple a hundred dollars to buy a restrictive license to print some pages, browse the web, listen to music and send some emails. Which is why GA becomes quite annoying all around. Shafin bhai has migrated to Linux and open source software on moral principle because of the restrictiveness and the infringement on user's rights by MS, and the fact that we will practically never be able to lawfully use their products in BD.
