Default ICC president agrees to meet ICL officials

David Morgan, the ICC president, has agreed to meet Subhash Chandra, the owner of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, which also owns the ICL. The meeting, which has been arranged for an unspecified date, will be held in London.

"The ICL had previously written to the ICC requesting its approval and now it has asked for this meeting, to which we have agreed," Morgan said. "All members of the ICC board have been informed of this meeting and I will report back to those directors at the board's next meeting, in Dubai on October 14 and 15."

The ICL has been pressing the ICC unsuccessfully for official recognition of their unsanctioned venture for several months. Subsequently they requested the ICC for a meeting, and hinted at legal action if they ICC didn't agree to meet.

The ICL has been in the news over the past few days. On September 16, they unveiled the Dhaka Warriors, a team comprising 13 players from Bangladesh. Following that Sri Lanka Cricket allowed the Sri Lankan ICL players to play in its domestic Premier League Cricket Tournament for the 2008 season, thereby breaking away from the policy of all national boards in barring ICL players from all domestic cricket.

ICL,
Please Offer a huge amount of money to ICC. Buy them just like the players. At the end of the day it all about money. Then we will have a serious fight with Modi.

Yes,, ICC is all about money. If ICL can point out how they can contribute to the ICC fund by, maybe, using their elite umpires or give the boards some % of the commercial sponsors,,, ICC may consider ICL approval. Its true that ICC most likely wont make a decision without the countries approval and if enough countries vote for it,, who knows?

If ICC wasn't talking about ways to recognize ICL, they wern't sitting with ICL. They would have given a letter to them, turning them down. So I'm hopeful that it's a positive sign.

This is a big news indeed. It may not get solved in a meeting, but ICL will have some requirements on the table to fulfil. It may be outright money or it may be increased role of ICC in ICL (That's also money at the end) or it may be both. If ICL is able to meet it now, it's solved. If they can meet in future it will be left to future.

If ICL gets recognized, majority credit should go to Dhaka Warrior. Weldone Dhaka Warrior.

If it was BCCI president then it would have been a different matter.

We won't see them anytime soon even if ICC recognize it.

All these players retired from BCB before getting banned, remember? They have to face lot of difficulties if they want to play for National team again. They have to fight in court. They have broken their previous contract by retiring without any valid reason.

but BCB didn't except their resignation letter..n later banned them..so therefore if there ban was to get lifted they wouldn't have any problem playing for the national team..or domestic league...

ICC should recognise ICL its a private league just as standfords' league is private.
If you come down on ICL you have to come down on standford too.
ICL would win in court on player restraint and on a standfords' league being private alone.
So ICC should recognise.

ICC itself is a private organization, it does not need to recognize anyone it does not want to.

However, BCB is a government owned organization, and our players should be able to sue it for blocking them from representing their country in a sport.

WICB has allowed Stanford to run the league. Beside Alan Stanford pumped so much money in to WI cricket that the board can not refuse.

ICL is played in India and forbidden by BCCI (who is the richest cricket board in the world).

Default ICC meets ICL

ICC president agrees to meet ICL officials

The ICC has granted ICL the opportunity to present its case for official sanction, and Subhash Chandra, the Indian businessman who owns the league, will meet ICC president David Morgan in London. The meeting is expected to take place in the first week of October after which Morgan will report back to the ICC's board of directors. The ICL will start its second season of domestic and international twenty20 tournaments on October 10.
"The ICL had previously written to the ICC requesting its approval and now it has asked for this meeting, to which we have agreed," Morgan said. "All members of the ICC board have been informed of this meeting and I will report back to those directors at the board's next meeting, in Dubai on October 14 and 15."
Himanshu Mody, the ICL's business head, said that they were still awaiting an official communiqué from the ICC on the meeting. "But we welcome the step they have taken in agreeing to meet us," Mody told Cricinfo.
It is learnt that Chandra, the owner of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, which also owns the ICL, will be accompanied by members of the ICL management for the meeting during which the league will seek official sanction under Rule 32 of the ICC operations manual that pertains to authorised unofficial cricket.
Currently, the Stanford venture in the West Indies and the Hong Kong Sixes tournament operate under this rule, but the ICL's case is different as it has not been endorsed by the home board, the BCCI. The Indian board has, in fact, banned ICL players from all forms of official cricket and barred them from using any of its facilities.
Yet, the ICL has managed to remain in the news by unveiling its ninth team last week, the Dhaka Warriors, comprising 13 players from Bangladesh, including six with central contracts. It has also received unexpected support from Sri Lanka where the board last week lifted its domestic ban on six ICL players, including Marvan Atapattu, the former Sri Lanka captain, and allowed them to play in the Premier League tournament this season.
The ICL has been pressing the ICC unsuccessfully for official recognition of their unsanctioned venture for several months. Subsequently they requested the ICC for a meeting, and hinted at legal action if they ICC didn't accede to the request. The ICC, meanwhile, has held several meetings of a working group it set up early this year to study the legal aspects of unofficial cricket.
"All that has happened now is that the ICC has decided to hear Mr Chandra's point of view," a member of this working group told Cricinfo. "Everyone has the right to be heard. It doesn't mean that the ICC has to agree to that point of view, or agree to any proposal. Any further discussions on this will happen after Mr Morgan reports back to the board on this meeting."
An ICC press release said that it will be making no further comment on this matter at this time.
Let's see what happens. ICC doesn't really sound like they are interested, infact it seems like they are just doing it for the sake of it. I do think ICC needs to think about this properly and make a fair decision instead of being controlled by any other board.

For now it seems to me that the outcome will be that either ICC will not come to a decision at all just yet, or they will not recognize ICL!

Who is this Mody? is he from the same Lolit Modi family?

I think ICC won't have option but to allow. They might just ask for some piece of the cake.

ICL should not talk with this Moron... I mean David Moron (or something).

Why wasting time talking with the secretary (ICI)? They should demand direct talk with the BIG boss i.e. BCCI to solve the issue.
