Slow-left armers - our only spinning option?
In the recent years bdesh has suddenly got bloated in number of sla bowlers - rafique, abdur razzak, saqib, mehrab hossain jr, Manjurul islam rana, enamul haque jr. such lack of variety in the spin department cant be good. But what else is there? We havent had a non sla bowler bowling for us as a staple, tho ash and rajin have bowled sometimes.

leg spinners are a rare species, hard to come by. and its a dying art. if we had a leg spinner of bandara's or chandana's class we would have done little better

Ashraful seems keen to give his own legspin a chance, now that he's captain. he bowled 32 ovrs in this test series.

Wel we really need to vary our spin attack because our SLA's are probably too easy now to face after the WC and it was pretty ineffective in the test series and also in the India series!!!

The BD type of SLA is good for one dayers, tests you need to have some vareity. The SLA's that BD got are more of run stoppers and pressure builders, rather than attacking bowlers.
In tests, the batsmen are least bothered about scoring fast, so the monotonous, no loop, arm ball bowling wont get any wickets unless the batsmen will look to score runs at a faster pace.
Yes, BD does need some vareity in their spin attack, immediately.

We need pacers who can adapt to most pitches. Spinners unfortunately are useless in shiny pitches and spinner-friendly pitches aren't available everywhere. We should look to build our fleet of fast bowler. Some teams does and did rely on spinners on great effect in the past and so did we during WC against South Africa but we were belted in other type of pitches.
While we have abundant spinners selectors and coaches should focus hard on fast bowlers.

the pace attack is where it starts in a bowling attack and it should be built around the pace attack. bangladesh have a great pool of spinning talent, they may not be warnes or murili's but they have a lot of really solid spinners which i can tell you is something australia is struggling with atm. it starts with the pace attack, if they can put suffcient pressure on the batting team then the spinners have a much greater chance of success. think of it like this, if the batting team has pressure from the start from the pace bowlers, when it's time to bring the spinners on they'll be thinking they can get a few extra runs. they then try to score a bit quicker against the spinners, take more chances and offer more opportunities to get them out. for the most part when it comes to taking wickets (pace bowlers and spinners), it's more about pressure on the batting team as oppose to out thinking them or bowling amazing balls (these things help but the pressure is the main contributor throughout the innings). put pressure on them and they'll take more risks, this presents more opportunities to take wickets.

haha... u seem to b in a very ODI mode...
well it is true in ODIs... and we are doin well with the spinners... but in tests... we need more penetrating bowling... both in the spin and the pace department... our bowlers were totally ineffective... (as were the batsmen... but still...).
and in tests... well we really need to better both spin and pace departments... coz at the moment... its all worthless... even if our team did make 500 runs... we would still not be able to beat any1... coz our bowling simply cant get a team out... EVEN ONCE!!!...
... and thats sad... very sad....

no i'm not in one-day mode, this philosphy is very much used by the australian team in test cricket, all of their bowlers put pressure on the batsmen that's why they take wickets. compare them to the english attack when they last played australia, the only bowler putting pressure on australia was flintoff (maybe panesar as well in the last couple of tests) and they didn't do too well. pressure builds tension and tension helps get wickets in every form of the game. i'm not saying the bowlers don't have to get better, but i think for now the most important thing is good consistent pressure bowling. players like warne and murili don't come along very often, you can't expect one of them every generation.anyway the main point of my previous post was that it's not just the spinners fault, the pace attack need to get better as well.

Right hand legspinners do not offer a great deal of diversity from the SLAs we have. To a batsman it spins the same way. Be it a legspinner, SLA or offspinner, we need someone who can produce variations within his core expertise. Morali would not be Morali without his doosras or Shane would not be Shane without his flippers. Our SLAs are very one dimentional and batsmen has learned to read them well. Rafique is the same Rafique but he is much too predictable and an experienced batsman will play him with assurance that the ball is not going to do anything special except for his arm balls. Consequentll, he will get wickets against the English and Zimbabweans but other will be feasting.

Nope, very wrong, a right arm leg spinner is way way different than the SLA's. the loop, the angle, the variation damn everything is different. just an example, An arm ball from a SLA is very expected and played with much ease than a googly of a leg spinner.
I have played some level of cricket and i can assure you they are way way different .
cheers !

I think you are both wrong. It depends who is bowling and against whom he is bowling.
Trust me I have some level of understanding about our dads and I can assure that my dad is way way stonger than...
