Why do Bengali girls do that anyway? They powder up their face like the moon and it doesn't match their neck... Make up isn't there to make you white. They gotta start watching those Beyonce, Alicia Keys Loreal "True Match" commercials.

Only Tamim got invited...is this because they're really close or because Shakib doesn't get along with anyone else in the team?

No matter how private the ceremony was, as Tamim got invited, at least other senior players should have been invited. Mushy, Riyad, Mash and Razzak at least. That's how I look at it. You have every right to differ though.

I have to agree with Isnaad here. This is Mushy's fait accompli. He is a team player. Shakib ta money hoy ektu 'cow-tha'.... Keno...onnoder dawat dite eto ki koshto tomar?
Edit: LOL at Bengalipagol's avy.

It was a ceremony held in the presence of those who are the most closest and dearest to him. And from what I know Tamim is one of Saqib's best friends and not just a teammate. So accordingly he was invited. The other players are just teammates and not really friends. I guess they would be invited in the big wedding ceremony supposed to be held later.
That's one of the reasons I like Saqib. With him there's no fake modesty, politeness just for the sake of it, he is very straightforward. In that aspect he is just like a westerner which is why I like him. That is also one of the reason he fell for Shishir I guess since she was brought up in the states. Their mentality probably matches. With Saqib what you see is what you get. Not the type to say dadabhai next time you must eat the eilish Mach.
It's a well known fact that Tamim is one of his best mates.

Probably The program is arranged by girls family so that's why Shakib just invited his relatives and close friends. There is no doubt Tamim is the only one who is very close to Shak.

[old man mode] During my time (the 70s) it was simpler even for affluent families. There was the Pan-chini (engagement party) where the various dates were announced. When the time came we'd have a couple of fun filled Gaye Holud parties followed by a BIye (wedding reception paid for by the bride's family) and Bou Bhat (bridal reception paid for by the groom's family). Biye and Bou Bhat involved the largest number of guests.
The Biye was the most elaborate affair which involved signing of the marriage contract, and the fun but disturbingly savage act of Gate Dhora. Less affluent families were satisfied with only the Gaye Holud and Biye combination.
These days, and I'm speaking from personal experience circa 2002 here, things are far more complex and expensive. My second ex-wife and I decided to get married, turned out to be a terrible decision in the end, and duly notified our parents. They took over from there.
First we had the Pan-chini where we invited close family and friends which our parents have MANY. A week later, right before my temporary return to San Francisco, we had the "Aqd" at her house. Only our parents and just a couple of elderly family friends were present in front of the Quadi.
We had the Gaye Holuds upon my return, followed by Biye at the Falcon Hall and the Bou Bhat at Shenakunjo. Should've had an equally high profile Talak reception at some fancy hotel![/old man mode]
So, the "Aqd" is a low profile, intensely private event where the marriage contract is negotiated and signed. Usually only the parents of couple are present in front of the Quadi. Each side also invites a close family friend, usually a trusted elderly person of good repute, to do the negotiation and bear witness to the signing.

What I want to know is why Shak's wife is called Umme Ahmed. Doesn't that mean Mother of Ahmed? If so, who is this Ahmed? And who is the father? Shak? I'm so confused.

Nowadays, some people give overly Arabic sounding names (Bin, Ibn, Al, Umm etc) to their kids to appear "aristocratic" without actually thinking about what the names mean. In this case however, the name honors Bibi Amina, the mother of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is also possible that they mixed up "Bint" with "Umm" and thought the name means "daughter of Ahmed" with Ahmed being Shakib's FIL's surname.

Bangali shomaj truly is very weird. I got grief for giving my daughter a Bangla name only. Perhaps I should have added a Binta Shubho for religious effect.
Anyway, I'm happy for Shak and Umme. Wish them all the best. And hope his cricket improves as a result of the marriage.

Her official Bangla nickname is Shishir, traditionally given to Bangali guys for whatever reason. Shakib's official nickname breaks with Bangali tradition and is also Arabic: Faisal.
Marriage can effect his cricket either way. My fingers are crossed.

Funny . I was the first one to post Shishir's pic in the "Top 10 Beautiful Bengali women or of Bengali Descent" thread as I thought Shishir is one of the most attractive girl from BD.. Check http://www.banglacricket.com/alochon...30675&page=142
And what's the competition for?? Shakib is like my younger brother
Now about their get up on their akd yeah I think Shakib looked way too simple. But as the groom's dress comes from the bride's side so I think Shishir wanted him to look that simple. Which is ok as Shakib looks more comfortable in simple outfits. But one complain though, why didn't he shave
Shishir was expected to look gorgeous and she did. But I agree with Sohel bhai she looks much better without those extra layers of make up. I have met her and she is even prettier than her pics !!!

Akd is not a ceremony where you invite people. Regular people just do it at home. But with their celebrity status it makes sense to book a hall and invite close frinds and relatives only. I was reading somewhere that only 28-30 people were invited there. As Tamim is like a family member to him, it's obvious that only Tamim will get invited in such a private family program.

Congrats to the newly wed. May they have life full of joy.

I just read a few other comments. To the best of my knowledge, BC has a good number of well educated, well traveled, and knowledgeable individuals. And it's a shame that there's so many useless, unnecessary comments that lack material and only show that education doesn't necessary civilize someone. Shame, real shame.
