i don't want ash in the team, i just don't see anyone currently in the team or anyone who isn't, who has scored 5 test centuries. as far as i know the next most centuries an individual player has got is 1, in test cricket it's important to have players who can play big innings.
btw people shouldn't compare ash to players like chanderpaul or even sarwan, those guys have averages of over 40 after having played many many test matches, ash only averages 23. ash shouldn't even be compared to afridi who averages 37, he's only played 26 test matches to ash's 49 but he has the same amount of centuries as ash and one more half century.
anyway i'm not saying keep him in the team or don't keep him in the team, at current i'm conflicted and can't decide for myself, though i probably am leaning on not having him in the team.

He will get chance to play at least 1 more test, 3 ODI and 1 T20 International. After that 5 ODI in Zimbabwe. Lets see what he does.

selectors will decide who to drop and not.. let's just enjoy the game
if it was me to decide, i would give him one more chance... i think he is still in shock of losing his captaincy and trying hard to prove his worth.. one thing he is forgetting - temper will only make it worse... good luck!

Riyad and Raqib didn't do well either.. I expect all players to give 100% but you need to admit that luck is not always in our favour.. let's hope we do well in the 2nd tests

sure raqib didn't do well but he's only had 4 test matches whereas ash has had 49, and riyad was playing his first plus het got the fifth best bowling innings a BD player has ever had in a test match.

Look at the test statistics before asking for removing someone. He hit a century in the last test series and it's just one test he has failed with bat. Forget about Bangladeshi players, even the international stars don't hit a fifty in every match. We need experience around the team.
Relax & leave it on to the selectors.

I would not be surprised if ash has some of the worst batting statistics of anyone in crickets history who has played as many tests as he has and is a specialist batsmen

He might have, but compare him with other BD players only. BD is new and has a short history of test cricket. He is almost one of our beginners.

Shob bakowaz.no matter how many logic u show, ash Will play the next test and many more to come...cuz he will always be good enough to be picked for BD.the only way to change this is making fazal a selector of BCB..

Don't forget his age, he is allegedly only 24. Yes he's failed (repeatedly), but a cricketers anywhere else in the world would be fortunate to play 10 test by by the age of 24 rather than 50. Comparisons with Afridi are unfair, he too started young but is much older at 29.
Someone should give Ash a stern talking to, encouraging him to blossom without the burden of captaincy, to set an example to the younger guns. Then we'll see if he performs. If he doesn't make an impact with the bat in the Windies and Zim, we can consider his position for the next tour.

the age argument is no longer valid, at 24 nearly 25, there are a number of players who've been at the international level for 2 or 3 years or longer by that stage and are doing much better. alistair cook is 24, averages 44 and has played 44 tests, de villiers is 25 has played 52 tests and averages nearly 44, irfan pathan is 24 has played 29 tests averages 31 with the bat and 32 with the ball, ishant sharma is 20 has played 18 tests with a bowling average of 33 (not great but decent), shakib at 22 has played 13 tests with a batting average of 26 and bowling average of 30.
there are also guys like tendulkar (was 16), ponting (was 21), graeme smith (was 22), dan vettori (was 19 or 20) who start out young, play well from the get go and end up really good players.
the fact that he is young but has already played 49 tests should be a major benefit to his performance but he's still not doing well enough.
24 is young, but it's not so young that a player should be this inconsistent especially when he's been on the scene for 8 years.

best post...
some ppl who say that ash's fan are blind are blind themselves...they think that bd team is australia and brings out stupid stats and averages....dude, i m not even a fan of ashraful....but this is bd team...if he was playing for any other country he would be dropped long ago...no other batsman comes close in the current squad to be compared with ash...no make no sense when u say after 9 yrs why he only average such and such...after 9 years he is the only batsman who is left in the squad and still going....and doesnt most our batsman averages around the mid 20's...dropping ashraful is not the cure...

I'd keep him.
But in the 2nd test if he fails & also the 1st two Odi's than we better rest him for the 3rd odi.
He's sooooo unpredictable, who knows what he gets in the 2nd test.

This is a valid argument (and one I've used before myself), but there are important exceptions to bear in mind.
The young players you name have all had the advantage of developing their cricket in established set-ups. Bangladesh is a young test nation and the infrastructure that Ash would have been confronted with when he started out would not have even been of the standard of the Under-19 team under McInnes that Shakib came into.
All I'm saying is that Ash has plenty of cricket left in him. Even if he were to "take a break"/be dropped, he shouldn't take it to heart and should instead motivate himself to come back stronger.
He continues to disappoint, but because of his relative youth, he still has enough time to prove himself as a truly great batsman. Alternatively he could be remembered as a great waste of talent. His legacy is entirely in his own hands...

While at it, give one to sissy Siddons too. Make sure he knows how Bangladeshis put forth their best effort (jali beth'er bari). That sweet talk Aussie method he learned doesn't work on us. If you see any selectors, remind them of their no accountability. They are the primary culprits.

i don't think siddons is the major problem. i am not saying he's a good coach, or even the right coach for us. but i am questioning the commitment ashraful and any other player like him displays. ashraful is in a league all to himself given that with his talent/experience level, he has a much bigger responsibility to show responsibility.
i'm gonna use the classic american model, none of this fobby bullcrap. there's a reason why america is so successful, and why their athletes tend to be so dominant. they have psychocologically competent coaching staffs.

The word that springs to mind is: pathetic.
Ashraful has played enough tests for us to take his average seriously. I believe he has played around 50 tests and averages 23.
So all things being equal, you can expect him to score 23 in a given innings. He might score a 50 or a 100, but his mean score will still be 23.
This man is a star ? No wonder the team lost almost every match !

why dont u count last 5 match and make average?
answer is 101+45+7+6+3=162/5====32, which is not bad in Bd standard.

lol last five match count them. 10 innings!!
1, 13, 1, 21, 12, 101, 45, 7, 6, 3 = 210. Average 21. Not bad right!!
Or why don't you pick two innings and make an average. 101 + 45 = 146 average 72. Now it is looking great.

Why people always open a thread against ASH, every time I visit here I see something written against him, where as they are the same people open a thread before everyone when ASH score a century, just why, wasted

His career is odd. He came in as a legspinner who could bat and i guessed turned into a batsman.
I wish he could have just developed into a all rounder. Leg spin would have added variety into our spin attack and he could add lower order punch (like afridi).
Instead he went full out as batsman, when hes mentally no-where close to being strong enough.
I do hope he fixes himself, because thats a lot of talent to lose. I think he should play next match. Hes only had burden of captancy gone for 1 match. Its too small of a sample size. One or two more tests and if he continues to struggle, send him away to work on his game.
