BD, Zim want crossover match in Round 1 of 2014 World T20, Ireland oppose
Ireland will be pitching for no cross over matches in Round 1 of 2014 World T20. The Round 1 will have 2 pools of 4 with BD & Zim joined by top 6 Associates. BD & Zim want to have cross over matches with top team of each pool playing the second team of other pool
What the efff is wrong with ICC.....stop this crap of top 8 coming from another planet...anyways matter of time before the likes of windies and nz fall way below us, and icc will then scrap this bullshit qualifying rounds once the old horses become weak...pathetic, and are they crazy to do this when they know Bangladesh is the major attraction since its their home ground?

I think its still a while to go till W Indies or NZ fall below BD in the rankings.
Have figured this all out, first round will contain 12 matches because two groups of four. In second round, there will be two groups of 5, so total of 20 matches. Then quarterfinals, 4 matches, with semis and finals making it 3. So in all, 12+20+4+3 = 39 matches which is the designated number of matches for this event.
Which means 2019 50 over world cup will have the same format as above, except it will start from second round, with the last two teams playing in a qualifying round not part of the world cup. So the difference is that a t20 world cup will have a pre qualifying round within its world cup itself, but 50 over world cup won't.

You are right in a sense both 2014 World T20 and 2019 WC are practically 10 nations tournament with the only difference that in T20 the qualifying round is part of tournament and it is not a part in WC
On the matches, after the Round 2 of 5 teams there will be no quarter final but directly semi finals. Matches would be
Round 1:- 12
Round 1 SF:- 2
Round 2:- 20
SF & F:- 3
Total Matches :- 37

But your numbers don't add up, remember for 2014 t20 wc, ICC mentioned they'll have 39 matches for men's event and 15 for women, the women's will just be like champions trophy format, but for men's, if u just include the quarterfinals and exclude knockout in qualifying rounds, the total number of fixtures are 39, just like how I've shown in my previous post. This would be the case if ICC sticks to its original format as BD and Zim want additional 'cross-over' matches which would make the total to 41. I have a feeling BD will escape this time around since they will ask for being included in round 2 itself due to being the host nation, ICC cannot afford to loose BD for main matches or else risk loosing a lot of revenues.

The number of matches might change by some number here to there. If they go for a quarter final after the Round 2, then it will be really stupid. A group of 5 and 4 teams make through, would make Round 2 a rubbish one. So I really don't think they will have QF coz of pressures of ESPN
And BD in Round 2 directly, I don't think they will do that. As long as big 3- Ind, Aus & Eng are well settled ICC don't give a rat's *** to anyone else

You are right, it will be just like you mentioned, except that there'll be no knockout matches in round 1. But I doubt whether ICC will go with exactly the same format starting from round 2 for the 50 over version. 23 matches is too less for a big event like a 50 over world cup. Have a feeling they'll include the quarterfinals then, because its 50 overs, and definitely a number 1 positioned team in a certain group will have definite advantage over a number 4 placed team in other group. Let's see.
Why does Bangladesh have to qualify for the main round? We are host's FGS and why do we even need to qualify for the main round? ICC's management policy is so ridiculous that its not suprising why cricket is in such a horrid state.
not comparing cricket with football, but one cannot overlook that even teams like Spain/Dutch/Brazil have to qualify for the main part of the world cup whereas hosts are automatically qualified. Here we see hosts have to fight out with other weaker teams while even those ranked 7/8 are getting qualification quite easily

Yes Cricket should also move towards a system of meritocracy where all the team need to qualify for the tournament, besides the host. This would mean even if it is Aus or BD or Nepal everybody has to qualify. But sadly it will remain a wish for long

i am of the opinion that bi-lateral for limited overs (ODI and T20) should be scrapped.
Have a regional T20 league every other year (Asia, South, North) and have top 5 teams from each league + host qualify for the T20 world cup. This way the top names (Ind, Pak, SL, BD from Asia; Aus, NZ, SA, Zim from South) and (ENG, WI, IRE from north) are surely to qualify unless they can't make the regional top 5 in which case they shouldn't qualify. This allows teams like China, USA, Canada, Nepal, Kenya to play against top opponents on a regular basis and develop their game.
The world cup T20 can then be 4 groups of 4 with QF (top 2 from each group), SF and F.
ODIs can be either formed into a 2 year league for the ODI nations [11 including IRE]Everybody plays each other home and away 3 times each.
-or-
I saw a suggestion on ODIs in Cricinfo that made a lot of sense too. Make it like Tennis Grand Slams (3 or four tournaments across regions annually) and have the ODI teams compete. It could be like the recently concluded 8 team CT where teams not making the SFs have a one off playoff with the next 4 teams for qualification.
If only ICC could get away from the elite member approach and limit/grand father that mentality for Test Cricket, the game could really expand globally.

This is cricket and the ICC. All bets are off.
By the year 2030, given India's projected economic growth (GDP bigger than USA's I believe), I wouldn't be surprised if India goes into every global tournament and bilateral series as the pre-set champion regardless of form, ratings, or results, with all other teams vying for 2nd place.
