Default Were you surprised?

I was, certainly, not surprised with the outcome of the 1st test. Were You?
It was inevitable, when Mahmudullah was nominated as a test captain. Whose inclusion in the team just as a batsman is also debateable. Mahmudullah is a good one day player and turning out to be a good finisher - even this statement is not all ture. His track record only supports this statement in sporting bouncy pitches, which are mostly outside sub-continent. In the slow and low pitches, he doesn't have the technique and temperament to survive for long, let alone score big.

Bunch of youngsters are pushed in the team with an excuse of building up a team for future. If the present is in disarray, what is the point of thinking about future! We need to fix the present first. It doesn't take long for the team management to throw one out after one or two failures. This has been happening for quiet some times now. Sometimes it is also difficult to understand who are the selectors of BD team!

Players like Shanto, didn't even have the chance to show any noticeable performance in one day format. They are thrown in to the test squad with a hope of some miracle. What was the selection criteria? If it was domestic performance than few other experienced players and performers should have been given the priority. Continuous performers in the domestic sector like Tushar and Naeem are ignored with the excuse of age. Young players like Shanto needed to perform in the domestic circuit for little longer, play more with A team and also perform in the one day format before being pushed in to the test team. This continuous toss & turn is also damaging the confidence of these young players.

The team combination was also a big fuss. Playing with only one pacer in this century and expect to develop as a test playing nation was a complete contradiction. This should or could have been a mentality of BD team when Nannu & Durjoy used to play test for Bangladesh. We have to get out of this sissy mentality in order to progress. We are for some unknown reasons, taking steps backwards!

The batting order was also another mistry! How on earth Mahmudullah and Shanto comes before Mushfiq was beyond me.

Another observation may I add here. We have been noticing the fall of Muminul haq as player over the last few years. I feel tagging him only as a longer version cricketer could be one contributing factor in his decline of performance. He certainly warrants a place at least in the 15 men squad of BD one day team ahead of our so called complete packages.

It is sad to see the child's play behind the screen of BD team management, where even the most top man of the BCB is involved. Continuous chopping and changing; not selecting the right squad for right format; & looking for stop gap solutions is causing severe harm for the future of BD cricket. Not to mention the destruction of confidence of these upcoming talents due the selection fiasco.

Few could be surprised with this result of the first test; but I was not. All the ingredients of a recipe for a disastrous outcome was already in place. Let us wait for few more drama before the 2nd test!

I wonder how many people thought we will lose this test match by 150 runs, both local and foreign. Not many i think. It was unexpected at home especially after that ODI series where people were even discrediting the runs and wickets taken by some players because of the opposition, but these things can happen. I just hope we bounce back

We need to quit playing Test cricket. All our players have a t20/ODI mindset because we play the same players in every freaking format. Picking players based on the format seems to require too much intelligence for our dumb selectors. Better to make life easy for them and stop playing the 5 day format permanently.

Dull, is in his name and he is dull, he is mr MahmuDULLah..

This is dude why I’ve completely started to dislike test cricket. How can BD select this dude over again and again, when he only has one test ton playing over 10years. Better to give chances to those who are deserving and doing well domestic. Not meaning like shantos, he is a youngster maybe in time he will come good, but guys like Tushar and Naeem and others doing well domestic and have become mature wiser playets than ever before!

Too many dodgy selections. Too many new players and inexperienced players.

Yeah, do not repeat the words of the captain, there is no point playing test this way etc.

Problem is in selection. Valid questions raised.

Selection panel established nepotism along with team politics seems to be at worst possible level, which was largely boosted by the seclusion of previous coach.

As a fan you might have hoped that after that unbearable humiliation in WIndies, Papon/Nannu/Bashar will feel some urge to do something for this format.

But Alas, jei pumkin she kumra

Even a captain like Dhoni would not be able to do much with these jokers. Why only blame the captain? Selection was dodgy, new players are dragged in when they recently failed in ODI and has nothing to show for it. This was expected

Dhoni is not a good test captain. I agree that the problem wasn't the captain but Mahmudullah along with players like Imrul, Liton, Mominul and Shanto aren't test players. They want to play their natural game and lack patience to wait and build an innings.

Yes, despite team selection, captaincy and all, I was still surprised to see BAN getting all out TWICE below 170 by ZIM in homeground, especially after an ODI whitewash. I was even more surprised when the coach said that BAN won most of the sessions (5 out of 9 or something).
