Default Mahmudullah is proof...

That strong domestic results can transfer into international success.

With that in mind, forget Aftab replacing Ash on a permanent basis- bring in S. Hom or Farhad Hossain. Maybe both.

It is time to reward those who show application. And punish those who do not.

I would rather a painstaking thirty, over a whirlwind twenty, any day.

I would not even calculate on that. If they fail for two consecutive seasons, I do not mind. What's the difference any way? Rather play SN, if he clicks we may see a win, who knows!

Might, could. How about players who will only get out to good balls? Or those who put a price on their wicket?

FFS most people on here live off the memory of one Ashraful innings or in Aftabs case, one shot. Time to find players who rely on grit and determination, rather than luck.

doesn't always work though, doesn't ash have a good domestic FC record? look at him in test matches after 50+ matches, not so good. they need to perform domestically, have a good attitude towards their cricket (want to improve, good work ethic, willing to work hard in tough conditions for a good innings) and they also need enough talent to be able to succeed.

just looking at his stats on cricketarchive and for dhaka division he's averaging 42 and about 30 for dhaka metro, together the average is about 38.6. that's from 53 innings with no not outs.

Thats an OK argument about Ash's first class record. But, we need to show that good performances will be rewarded and poor performances punished.

Carrot and stick.

A player like Hom has played on Academy tours, and been pretty good. Give him a shot. What's the worst that could happen? We lose?

i'm not defending ash just saying not every domestic performer will translate that to the international scene. ash also performed in his 7 innings for the A team averaging over 37 with no not outs. his FC record is pulled down by his matches for the BCB XI, "Bangladeshis" and the national team.

i agree bad performance should be punished and good performance should be rewarded but you also have to make sure the player has enough good qualities to have a good crack at international cricket. ash has the talent, but i'm not sure that he ever had the good attitude, good work ethic, striving for improvement type mentality that a successful international cricketer needs.

Yes I agree. I guess my point is that if ASH stays in the side no matter how bad he performs, and domestic players who score big don't get a chance, it doesn't really encourage players.

Makes you wish Domestic comp was televised doesn't it? Scorecards are rarely great indicators of quality.

100% agree, this is what i've said and thought for as long as i've been a cricket fan. it's ridiculous that ashraful has had soo many chance, doesnt' matter how talented he is, he clearly doesn't have all the skills needed to be a successful test cricketer and he's been at it for a decade and had over 50 matches. for his experience and age he's not great in ODIs but at least he's improved over the years a little bit in that format.

Before I evaluate, I need to see some more consistency in his bowling and batting.
