Default Ten questions with Athar Ali Khan: An exclusive Banglacricket Interview

Ten questions with Athar Ali Khan: An exclusive Banglacricket Interview

by Mustafa Hamid

Published: 20th January, 2015

BanglaCricket (BC): Beside the 1997 ICC tournament, what are your fondest memories as a cricketer?
Athar Ali Khan (AAK): There are quite a few and to start with the 1997 ICC Trophy is right at the top.
  1. The biggest honour and proudest moment for me is when I was selected to represent the Bangladesh Cricket Team in the ICC Trophy 1986 (UK).
  2. Bangladesh winning their 1st ODI vs Kenya, Hyderabad, India 1996 (I think the year is right). Mohammed Rafiq opened with me and we added 147 for the opening partnership in that match.
  3. By the Grace of Almighty, I became the very first player from Bangladesh to receive the Man of the Match Award in an ODI (78 no vs SL in Asia Cup, Eden Gardens, 1990).
  4. Every Test, ODI and T20 win by Bangladesh.

I must say. My dream squad with be Athar uncle's squad with Jubair, Shafiul and Kayes. They have experience (except the leggie) but what has Sunny and Sircar done in international arena lately? But it's all good.

Good job mufti..very enjoyable read.. Editor team: loose vs lose.

That gn prince question looks out of place on this interview lol....that just came out of nowhere... Wasted a question mufi....

I always like interviews where I learn something new about someone and their likes..this one achieves that ...

I tried my best and there were obviously lot of mistakes as this was my first high profile interview. I would like to thank Athar Ali Khan for his time and valuable input. He has already made an account and so I have asked him to visit this thread, in case any of guys have any more follow up questions.

Enjoy the interview and leave more questions/comments if you want.

thanks to Mufi ji & Atahar Ali ji for making it so quick.

I would love to have AAli in BC , I think he is like one of us, he is not a coach, not a selector or one of BCB, so I don't thing there is any chance of any nanabhai type issue.

Golam Nowsher Prince. He used to play in 80s/90s. It was Tiger_eyes question. In hindsight, that question does seem out of place. Lesson to be learned for next time.

AAK is one of BD's very best natural born talent. I just wish he was born into this era. With all the opportunity this generation gets, he'd have been in race with Shak for that No.1 ALR title. And I'd have the opportunity to see him live. When we used to visit Bangladesh as kid that's who my cousins and the neighborhood kids used to call out before picking up a the bat or starting their run up. That's who that'd tried to imitate. Of course I didn't know who this person was but that's when I first learned his name and knew he was a pretty big deal.

In this match Athar bhai scored his highest 82 before being stumped. He was using a runner. I thing it must be an interesting decision. Anyone watched it live?
