BDFlag Daily Star: Third ODI sold out

Third ODI sold out

Tickets for the third one-day international between Bangladesh and West Indies have been sold out on the very first day after those were put on sale yesterday.

The third ODI of the 5-match series will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur tomorrow.

Fans queued up in front of the nine nominated branches of the Social Islami Bank Limited in the capital from early morning and many had to return home without ticket, which became precious after the Tigers' victory in first two games in Khulna.

"All tickets, around 19,000, for the third match have been sold out from the nine nominated bank branches in the capital on the very first day. So fans will not get any ticket for the third match from the bank as well as from the booth at the stadium," said Gazi Ashraf Hossain, organising secretary of the ongoing series."

BCB need to increase the capacity of the stadiums ASAP. They are too small for our huge population.

^ It was cluster mess. During WC, they had to make it "international", setting a proper capacity. They can't just stuff people in there anymore.

They atta build new stands, proper stands, 2-3 level stands. What's Dhaka's population?

For a city like Dhaka, the stadium's capacity should be 60,000 at least. Demand here is more than thrice of the capacity.

They would probably have to do major work to expand SBNS capacity to 50k +....it would mean no matches there for 2 or more years.

That should be fine. Dhaka has seen enough - give the other cities a chance while they build a real stadium in Dhaka.

Yeah they should try and increase stadium capacity if they can. Can you imagine what the atmosphere would be like in a 50,000 packed stadium. It would be quite an experience.

They can still do it in small section. One stand at a time. Like they do in other countries. e.g. Adelaide Test had construction going on during the 2nd test. One side of Edgbaston was under construction during Bangladesh vs England ODI in 2010

Imagine the atmosphere in a 100K stadium - I've not been to a Cricket one of that size but have been to football ones - Texas stadium at Austin and Ohio Stadium (Columbus, Ohio) - both 100K+. The largest baseball stadium I've been to was Petco Park ~45K.

The largest Cricket stadium? The old Dhaka Stadium. The Asia cup India-Pak final in the late 80s. It was jam packed - probably had about 70K people like they used to in the old days.

Dhaka definitely needs a 100K stadium.
Its all about having your own fortress and subjecting the opponents to a shock and awe tactics.
They should have had it by 2011 WC or least by '14.

Chittagong should have a 50K.
Coxbazar 15-20K is fine.
Khulna about 20K and so on.

We probably don't have the finance right now but it would be increase our chances of winning at home. We would turn it into a fortress, opposition teams would crap themselves when they hear the noise of our fans.

Lol why? We can build 20-25-30 storied luxurious buildings one after another and can't build a stadium with 70-75k capacity? Oh please!
...
Then again, Padma bridge. Sigh.

To add to that, Bangladeshi people are as vocal as people can be! So, imagining 100k together already gives me the goosebumps!

Realistically at the moment, increasing stadium capacity in SBNS is very difficult considering that Stadium already had a massive facelift. In places like Chittagong and Khulna, you can increase the capacity considering how they are designed. I see no reason why Chittagong cannot add another 15,000-20,000 seats. But if we can fill our grounds so easily then we should be arranging more matches so that the people who are missing out can actually attend a game. Bangladesh should arrange and sponsor a tri-series between themselves, Zimbabwe and Ireland to see who is the best of the minnows or something at least its meaningful.

Actually, no. ZACS in Chittagong was not designed with any plan of significant expansion. You can't just stack one stand above another. You need to have a proper foundation.
...
And I don't see why we should be playing tri-series involving Ireland and Zimbabwe now that we have already started to beat the G8 teams pretty consistently.

The Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka has a capacity of 40,000. Our capacity is a joke compared to that one considering how much larger our population is than SL and the greater cricket interest. We need a 50,000 stadium at least
