BCB to utilise long break
BCB to utilise long break
The Tigers will get a long break from international cricket after the completion of the exciting Asia Cup as their next international assignment is against Zimbabwe in August.
After the region's biggest cricket competition the main question surrounding Bangladesh cricket was whether the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will be able to chalk out a proper plann during the off-season before the Zimbabwe tour and ICC T20 World Cup to be held in September in Sri Lanka.
Many had cited the lack of preparation as one of the main reasons behind the Tigers' disastrous performance on the last tour of Zimbabwe in July-August last year, which is why the cricket operations committee wanted to take some necessary actions to make sure that the Tigers go into the tour with adequately prepared.
“The cricket operations committee met today to discuss the planning, where the head coach was also present. We are not ready to face the same criticism that we faced after the last Zimbabwe tour. We may go to any European country like Ireland and Scotland for preparation. Some other options were also discussed. Actually, we will now work out the feasible options,” said Enayet Hossain Siraj, chairman of the BCB's cricket operations committee, yesterday.
“You know our domestic commitments will end by April 20 and after that we will get three months for preparation and we want to take best preparation this time. We also discussed the preparations for the T20 World Cup,” he added.
After completion of the Premier Division Cricket Super League matches, the last matches of the second phase of the National Cricket League will be held on April 10-13 while the final is scheduled for April 16-20.
It was learnt that coach Stuart Law expressed his desire to arrange a three-week conditioning camp in Melbourne during the off time but BCB may not consent to his idea because of the huge expense.
Zimbabwe Cricket has been trying to convince their Bangladesh counterparts to change the tour schedule from August to October-November but the officials in the BCB were divided regarding the proposal.
Some believe that it will better for the Tigers to tour in October-November because the conditions in August are very cool while others weren't ready to sacrifice domestic cricket by changing the schedule.
“We will go to Zimbabwe in August as per earlier scheduled, otherwise our domestic cricket will suffer,” said Siraj.
As per schedule Bangladesh will play two T20Is, two Tests and three one-day matches in Zimbabwe but BCB is trying to add one more Test, which has been pending for long.

BCB should have clear schedule for our “A” team and academy team during the off season as well. Yearly schedule they should publish in their official web site.
After Asia cup 2012 performance finding a sponsor for conditioning camp at Melbourne won't be that difficult. BCB should give their best to get that and go as per our head coach's advise.
Best interest of our team should come first rather than thinking about money too much.
Also hope our school cricket this year will be longer version ( 2 days initial rounds, Final round 3 days, semi-finals and final 4 days match)

BCB can't pay for 25ish people /3 weeks in Aus? Good on Law for coming up with this idea, instead of taking a vaca. Of course this means he can go to Aus for 3 weeks, but at least players will be busy.
Stop eating on BPL money...

Seriously, BCB you can't be that poor. All the Dhaka clubs get 35 lakhs each for no reason and you can't afford to send the national team to Melb for 3 weeks even when the coach wants it? What about all those talks about BPL helping our cricket financially? You are just proving one more time that it was all for filling your pockets.

It should be to visit the Melbourne cricket facilities. Then he could report to BCB about improving the BD facilities.

Yeah well you can't just fix matches out of the blue. Especially when BD matches don't fetch a lot of money for the other teams.

^^Yes, that's long overdue! BCB should do something about arranging a series with NZ/fitness camp rather than pleading for Asia Cup!
Be proactive in the things that we NEED

Bowlers should go to Dubai to learn how to bowl on highways.

A one day series against Ireland in Irish/English conditions will be very exciting indeed. I personally think Ireland will beat us comfortably on green tops. Anyway, our batsmen will never learn how to play on those sort of wickets unless they gain experience. Remember, the next two world cups will be held in Australia and England.

'majority' has a different meaning in Kamal/BCB's dictionary.
e.g. Ashraful gets overlooked because kamal's naati doesn't like him.... (courtesy: prothom alo)

Playing a non test playing nation now, makes no sense.... Our boys will just lose it what they gained here and we will probably suffer from complacence. We just need to play against the test playing nations. I think NZ, WI and Even Pak is ready for a series during IPL... We just need to play strong oppositions for some time and get used the standards needed at this level, before playing any non test playing nations... We run the risk of forgetting the level here...

NZ are prob below the level of what took place in the asia cup and WI despite beating australia still aren't a strong side. better to play them than associates but india, pak, sri lanka, australia, RSA, and england are better sides to play imo.

I agree that we shouldn't play any non-test playing nation or even Zimbabwe at home with 3 SLA bowlers. We won't gain anything from that. However, playing Ireland in Irish/English conditions in May/June will be a good challenge for our batsmen.
