সহস্রাব্দের লক্ষ্যমাত্রা অর্জনে অসাধারণ সাফল্যের জন্য বাংলাদেশ জাতিসংঘ পুরস্কার অর্জন করেছে। সহস্রাব্দের লক্ষ্যমাত্রা বিশেষ করে শিশু মৃত্যুর হার কমানোর সাফল্যের জন্য বাংলাদেশকে এই পুরস্কার দেওয়া হয়েছে। গতকাল রোববার নিউইয়র্কের একটি হোটেলে এক জমকালো অনুষ্ঠানে বাংলাদেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার হাতে পুরস্কারটি তুলে দেওয়া হয়।

প্রধানমন্ত্রীর প্রেস সচিব আবুল কালাম আজাদ এক সংবাদ ব্রিফিংয়ে জানিয়েছেন, প্রধানমন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের পক্ষে এই পুরস্কার গ্রহণ করেছেন। দেশে শিশু মৃত্যুর হার প্রায় ৫০ শতাংশ কমিয়ে আনার সহস্রাব্দের লক্ষ্যমাত্রা অর্জনে বাংলাদেশের সাফল্যে এই পুরস্কার দেওয়া হয়েছে।

বাংলাদেশ ছাড়া আরও পাঁচটি দেশকে এই পুরস্কার দেওয়া হয়েছে। জাতিসংঘ সাধারণ পরিষদের ৬৪তম অধিবেশনের পাশাপাশি উচ্চপর্যায়ের ‘সহস্রাব্দ লক্ষ্যমাত্রা সম্মেলনের’ এক দিন আগে এই পুরস্কার দেওয়া হলো। সাধারণত প্রতি ১০ বছর পরপর আটটি বিষয়ে সাফল্যের জন্য এ পুরস্কার দেওয়া হয়।

প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা ১০ বছর আগের সেই সম্মেলনেও বাংলাদেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রী হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
পুরস্কার প্রদানকারী কমিটি সহস্রাব্দ উন্নয়ন লক্ষ্যমাত্রা পুরস্কার দেওয়ার সময় এই সাফল্য অর্জনের জন্য প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার ব্যক্তিগত নেতৃত্বের ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করে।

বাংলাদেশের পক্ষে পুরস্কার হাতে নিয়ে প্রধানমন্ত্রী এই পুরস্কারের জন্য বাংলাদেশকে নির্বাচিত করার জন্য সংশ্লিষ্টদের ধন্যবাদ জানান। তিনি বলেন, এই সাফল্য ২০১৫ সালের মধ্যে সহস্রাব্দের সব উন্নয়ন লক্ষ্যমাত্রা অর্জনে বাংলাদেশকে উদ্বুদ্ধ করবে। বাসস।

Shishu mitrur haar ki govt komaiche naki? Can we name any specific giverment program for that? More credit goes to the NGo sectors I guess for their extensive immunization and vaccination programs and micro finance type programs that contribute to better affordability for the poor.
