One funny news (albeit no link for that) is that many Pakistanis believe USSR's demise is solely due to the fact that Pakistan "destroyed" the Soviet army in Afghanistan. Even funnier is the belief that if Zia ul Haq was alive, he would have broken India into several states through "Mujahideen", and that Pakistan would have taken on, and defeated the US as awell. I am yet to meet people of any other country so delusional (apart from some Turks and Indians)......

GHAZNI: The Taliban have warned Afghans that possessing pictures of ‘unrelated women and handsome boys’ was against Islamic law and owning ‘shiny new phones’ runs contrary to their religious dignity.fficeffice" />
The Taliban have been posting ‘night letters’ in the volatile southeastern province of Ghazni, reminding Afghans of their religious obligations and reiterating warnings that they will attempt to disrupt crucial presidential elections on Aug. 20.
In a restatement of the Taliban’s austere interpretation of Islam, one letter warned people, especially the young, against using hi-tech gadgets such as cell phones with photography and video functions.
‘People with camera cellphones must not have pictures of unrelated women and handsome boys in their phones, which is against Islamic sharia,’ reads one letter, obtained by Reuters on Monday. Sharia is Islamic religious law.
‘People should think of their Afghan dignity rather than buying shiny phones,’ it said.
Mobile telephones also should not have ‘immoral video clips,’ ring tones with verses of the Koran, or derogatory messages against individuals or tribes. It regarded such offences as ‘a serious crime’ that would be punished severely, the letter said.
The ‘night letters’ have been springing up overnight in mosques and on the walls of Ghazni villages since last Friday.
The Taliban also warned voters in Ghazni to stay home from the day before the Aug. 20 election or face serious consequences.
With attacks escalating across ffice:smarttags" />Afghanistan in recent weeks, the Taliban’s leaders last week vowed to disrupt the poll, urging voters to boycott the ballot and ‘join the trenches of jihad.’

A group of rabbis and Jewish mystics have taken to the skies over Israel, praying and blowing ceremonial trumpets to ward off swine flu.
About 50 religious leaders circled over the country on Monday, chanting prayers and blowing the horns called "shofars".
The flight's aim was "to stop the pandemic so people will stop dying from it," Rabbi Yitzhak Batzri was quoted as saying in Yedioth Aharanot newspaper.
The flu is often referred to as H1N1 in Israel, where pigs are seen as unclean.

Police say Bangladeshi born speeder claimed to be CIA official
Police say Bangladeshi born speeder claimed to be CIA official
Mon Aug 24, 9:08 pm ET
MOUNT CARMEL, Tenn. – Police in northeast Tennessee say Zeeshan Maula isn't the deputy director of the CIA — and he'd have to pay his $75 speeding fine even if he were. On June 29, a Mount Carmel speed camera clocked the 56-year-old Orange county, Calif resident going 66 mph in a 55 mph zone. He was sent a ticket.
Assistant Police Chief Mike Campbell says Zeeshan Moula mailed back a copy of the citation with a handwritten note, claiming he wasn't subject to local speed zones because he was the deputy chief of the CIA.
The federal agency told police Zeeshan Moula never had been an employee.
Zeeshan Moula was arrested for criminal impersonation and released on $500 bond. Campbell says federal charges are also pending.
A telephone listing for Zeeshan Moula did not take incoming calls.

This is neither breaking news, nor its a funny news. I am not even sure this deserve a new thread or not. Therefore I am posting it here....

Minister receives SMS death threat
Civil aviation minister GM Quader received a death threat by SMS on Tuesday.
The SMS came from a Grameenphone number to the minister's cell number at around 2:30pm.
"I have asked my personal secretary to file a complaint with the police," Quader told bdnews24.com.
The message read, "Time and tide wait for none. But one person wait for you. Do you know who is he? He is Azrail. He must come and take your zaan. So, be careful. It is high time."
- source'BDnews24

Looks like now a days Azrail is also equiped with hi-tech gazzete. I though SMS is only popular in BD. Now looks like SMS popularity crossed the human boundary.

This might be a friendly SMS from a devotee who just felt like warning other fellow Muslim brethren about after life as a Ramadan gift.

Yes Goru da, it was from his booking photo when he got arrested (without his makeup)!!
I am a look alike of him with the makeup on, that's why I am using his photo as my avatar! And I am writing some lyrics for him at the moment!
