ঢাকা: জাতীয় দলের ফিল্ডিং কোচ হিসেবে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার কোরি জন রিচার্ডসের সঙ্গে কথাবার্তা পাকাপাকি করে ফেলেছে বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ড (বিসিবি)। এখন সভাপতি নাজমুল হাসান পাপনের অনুমোদনের জন্য অপেক্ষা।

I think he will work as both batting and fielding coach. Was a good batsman averaged over 30 in FC and ListA games.

সবকিছু ঠিক হয়ে যাওয়ার পর বিসিবি সভাপতির অনুমোদন না পাওয়ার কোন কারণই নেই। শ্রীলঙ্কা সিরিজের ক্যাম্প শুরুর আগেই হয়তো চলে আসবেন কোরি। ২০ বা ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারি তাঁর আসার একটা সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে।

This guy had a good smoking of talent, played fir Australia A, didn't fulfill his talent imo, could have played honours but didn't quite get there.

That was not international Cricket for Scotland. Rahul Dravid also played for Scotland.

Thanks, are you allowed to play for international team, how did Rahul Dravid end up playing for Scotland. I think I am confused.

Scotland and Holland participate in English OD tournament. Its a 40 over tournament arranged in 3 groups. Ireland used to also participate in the past but last few years they have pulled out to concentrate more on playing in Ireland, beside more than half of their top cricketers play for other county team which would make difficult for them to get strong 11 in that competition. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has all but confirmed the appointment of Corey Richards as a specialist fielding coach of the Tigers.
The 37-year old former New South Wales batsman, who is currently engaged with the Big Bash League side Sydney Sixers, is likely to join the Tigers on February 20.
“We settled everything with Corey Richards; now all that is required is the formal approval from the board about his two-year contract. We are hopeful that he will join the team before the Sri Lanka tour,” said BCB's cricket operations committee chairman Enayet Hossain Siraj yesterday.

নিউ সাউথ ওয়েলসের হয়ে খেলেছেন। ওই দলের ব্যাটিং কোচ হিসেবেই কোচিং শুরু। এরপর একই দায়িত্ব নেন বিগব্যাশের দল সিডনি সিক্সার্সের। প্রধান কোচ ট্রেভর বেলিস কলকাতা নাইট রাইডার্সের কোচ হয়ে চলে যাওয়ার পর থেকে সেই দায়িত্বটাও তাঁর।

অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটে ব্যাটিং কোচ, এমনকি প্রধান কোচ হিসেবেও দায়িত্ব পালন করা কোরি রিচার্ডস বাংলাদেশে আসছেন নতুন ভূমিকায়। জাতীয় দলের নতুন ফিল্ডিং কোচ করা হয়েছে এই অস্ট্রেলিয়ানকেই� � বিসিবির ক্রিকেট পরিচালনা বিভাগের প্রধান এনায়েত হোসেন কাল নিশ্চিত করেছেন বিষয়টি, ‘কোরি রিচার্ডসের সঙ্গে আমাদের কথা চূড়ান্ত হয়ে গেছে। আমরা কাগজ পাঠালে শ্রীলঙ্কা সফরের আগেই তিনি চলে আসবেন। আপাতত চুক্তিটা দুই বছরের হবে।’ মূলত ব্যাটিং কোচ হলেও রিচার্ডসকে ফিল্ডিং কোচ হিসেবে আনার কারণ, বিসিবিতে এই পদের জন্যই আবেদন করেছেন তিনি। ‘কোরি রিচার্ডস ফিল্ডিং কোচ হতেই আবেদন করেছেন। আর ফিল্ডিং কোচ বলে তো আলাদা কিছু নেই। এর আগে আমরা জুলিয়ান ফাউন্টেনকে এনেছিলাম। সে তো ছিল বেসবল কোচ’—বলেছেন ক্রিকেট পরিচালনা কমিটির প্রধান।

ফিল্ডিং কোচের মতো ব্যাটিং কোচের পদও খালি জাতীয় দলের। শ্রীলঙ্কা সফরের আগে এই পদে বিদেশি কাউকে দেখার সম্ভাবনা কম। তবে, ব্যাটিং কোচ হিসেবে একজন ব্রিটিশ কোচকে আনার চেষ্টা করছে বিসিবি। এনায়েত হোসেন নামটা না বললেও একটি সূত্রে জানা গেছে, তিনি নিউজিল্যান্ডের সাবেক কোচ অ্যান্ডি মোলস। বাংলাদেশ দলের সঙ্গে কাজ করার ব্যাপারে বেশ নাকি আগ্রহী মোলস। তবে বেতনটা চাইছেন অনেক চড়া। ‘মোলস অনেক বেশি বেতন চাইছেন বলে শুনেছি। এখন আমরা তো নিশ্চয়ই হেড কোচের চেয়ে বেশি বেতন দিয়ে ব্যাটিং কোচ আনব না’—বলেছে ওই সূত্র। সে ক্ষেত্রে বিসিবির আলোচনায় থাকা বিকল্প ব্যাটিং কোচের নামটা বেশ চমকপ্রদ—জেমি সিডন্স!

হ্যাঁ, বাংলাদেশ দলের সাবেক প্রধান কোচ জেমি সিডন্স আবার ফিরতে আগ্রহী বাংলাদেশে। তবে ব্যাটিং কোচ হিসেবে নন, তিনি ফিরতে চেয়েছিলেন ফিল্ডিং কোচ হিসেবে। বিসিবিতে ফিল্ডিং কোচের চাকরির জন্য আবেদনও করেছেন বর্তমানে নিউজিল্যান্ডের ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটের দল ওয়েলিংটনের কোচ এই অস্ট্রেলিয়ান। সিডন্সের আবেদনপত্র পেয়ে বিসিবির মাথায় খেলছে নতুন চিন্তা। মোলস যেহেতু একটু বেশিই দুষ্প্রাপ্য, যদি সিডন্সকেই আনা যায় ব্যাটিং কোচ হিসেবে। প্রধান কোচ হিসেবে কিছু সীমাবদ্ধতা থাকলেও ‘ব্যাটিং কোচ’ সিডন্সের যোগ্যতা নিয়ে প্রশ্ন নেই কারোরই। তবে যে কারণে মোলসকে আনা কঠিন, সে কারণটা সিডন্সের ক্ষেত্রেও প্রযোজ্য। প্রধান কোচ হিসেবে বাংলাদেশে যে টাকা পেতেন, সেটা যে ব্যাটিং কোচ হয়ে এলে দেওয়া হবে না সিডন্সকে! তাতেও কি সিডন্স রাজি হবেন পুরোনো ছাত্রদের দায়িত্ব নিতে?

স্পিন বোলিং কোচ হিসেবে সাকলায়েন মুশতাককে আবার ফিরিয়ে আনতে অবশ্য এমন কোনো প্রশ্ন নেই। ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজের বিপক্ষে গত সিরিজে এই পাকিস্তানি অফ স্পিনারের উপস্থিতি বাংলাদেশের স্পিনারদের সাফল্যে বড় ভূমিকা রেখেছিল। তাঁর ব্যাপারে তাই আগ্রহী বিসিবি। বছরে ১০০ দিনের জন্য কাজ করতে রাজি সাকলায়েনও। তবে স্ত্রীর অসুস্থতার কারণে শ্রীলঙ্কা সফরে থাকতে পারবেন না বলে জানিয়ে দিয়েছেন তিনি। জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরের কয়েক দিন আগে এসে সেই সফরে দলের সঙ্গী হওয়ার ইচ্ছার কথাও জানিয়েছেন একই সঙ্গে। বিসিবি একটু সিদ্ধান্তহীনতায় ভুগছে এ ব্যাপারে। বছরে ১০০ দিনের বড় একটা অংশ জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরেই শেষ করে ফেলা ঠিক হবে কি না, নাকি অক্টোবরে দেশে নিউজিল্যান্ড সিরিজের আগে তাঁকে আনা হবে, এই সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হবে কয়েক দিনের মধ্যেই।

Jurgensen started when Law was in charge. He didnt work with Siddons

This fielding coach,Corey Richards, sounds good to me. I always prefer relatively low profile coach for Bangladesh. Lets see how he performs.

I am not sure about Siddons appointment as batting coach since many players have complained against him for creating division in the team and favoring his favorite players. If Siddons comes then those players will have upper hand and may be, they may not abide by other coaches, who knows

Batting coach for Cricket NSW for the past few years in various programs and asst coach to Trevor Bayliss of the Sydney Sixers in BBL for past 2 years. He was head coach when they won the Champions League in South Africa last year as Trevor was coaching his IPL team in the same event.

What's the deal with batting coaches wanting to be fielding coaches?!

I guess making the players go through fielding drills is more fun than throwing balls at batters for hours.

BTW, did not Siddons try to sue ACB because he developed a shoulder injury while working as the batting coach for Australia? If BCB hires him, they should include a clause in his contract saying he will have no problem throwing balls at batters in nets or won't try to sue BCB later if his shoulder injury returns.

Any impact from him? I did not see any sort of improvement from the fielding..terrible slip catching and sloppy hands just to name a few of the areas in the field we sucked in..

My nephew started with his new driving instructor last week. He should pass by next week. If he does not will change his instructor.
