Default Match thread: BD-ZIM: 1st test, 2nd day

280/4...lets see if we can get to the 400 mark without losing any more wickets, then we will really have won the psychological battle.

today's first session is the most important of the match.

the job has just started. We need centuries from at least one of the remaining batsmen and some 50+ scores from 2 players in order to get to a formidable score. We need to have at least 300+ runs for the Zim batsmen to avoid any sort of follow on. I'm pretty sure that if we don't lose silly wickets we can achieve that mark.
That will put pressure on the Zim batsmen. First thing is to ensure that the Test is at least drawn or BD wins!

Agreed. We need one century and 2 or 3 50s. So, if Rajin gains 40 more runs, then it will be 320, 320+50+50+50+30=500. That'll be a winning total.

dont be too optimistic. Both Taibu and Bashar said that the pitch has nothing for pace bowlers..... so Zim batsmen will do equally well.

i don't know if thats a winning total or not- we're still on the end of the first day- you cannot say anything until the 3rd day! but if we do get 500+ then it will somewhat ensure a draw at least!

Anything less than 380 will be disappointing. Atleast 475 for satisfaction.

First hour will be crucial...both Rajin and Aftab have to play sensibly...forget about targets..first set themselves in...there is plenty of time...we need to break the Zimbo spirit first!

at end of day yesterday, bashar and watmore are more nervous and cautious about the rest of the match than taibu and simmons. there were 2/3 drop catches, and 2/3 bad decisions against zimbabwe.

Anything other than win in this test match for me will be a shame. We should win against this Zimbabwe team. Just think, if we can beat this team in the two test matches, we won't be the lowest team of all test teams.

I think everyone should remember our problem in the second innings.
We just have to make sure it doesn't happent this time.

I don't think a dominating draw is a shame for us.
After losing 29 tests a draw should be a welcome relief.
Let's draw first and then we will win.

if luck and umpire favors us like yesterday we should try to bat out the whole day today also. Make 600+ runs and let zim bat tomorrow.

How can a draw be shameful?
If the difference between us and Zimbabwe makes a draw shameful then we are not supposed to draw or win against any other test nation.
I think in test cricket draw doesn't always mean both teams are equal.
You can draw and still get all the praise.

a draw will not be shameful but will be something of disheartening, because zim is giving us the only chance we will get in the near future to win a test match.

First thing first.

1. Survive 1 hour without losing wicket.
2. Reach 400 to avoid defeat
3. Exelerate run rate to 3.5, if still have some wickets left
4. Bat all day today or as long as pitch is not turning.

Still we will have three days including the spinner friendly pitch 4th and 5th day to try to squeze a victory from them.

Therefore my request to all, Don't be too greedy. Let us confirm the draw first.

Lets be specific:

Rajin: Keep playing your game. You are in a groove and don't change a thing.

Aftab: Play the anchor. Don't be out in the first session. Play like Ashraful did yesterday. Let Rajin play.

lots of thoughts but the foremost thing is

1) Don't loose a wicket in Morning Session

2) If # 1 is true
then
target to score 500+ by end of the day
else
approach the game session by session & score above 400

agreed with above.

Also we need to play our natural game. Over cautiousness can work the otherway.

I dunno know what the directions were, but for some reason Ash played like Rajin and Rajin played like Ash......what's up with that.

I can only hope that the rest of the BD batsmen should play Zim as they usually do with other teams. Our batting usually starts after the 5th wicket down, since this is an uncharted territory for our tailenders, it will be very interesting to see how they cope with this positive situation. I hope they don't make a mess of it.

As long as we succeed each session on the second day, we will win. So our target is simple,

win each session, we will win our first ever test.

Ash came in when 2 wickets fell within a few runs. He had to rebuild the innings with basher and to some extent he did. his out was unfortunate. He played enough balls to get set like a mautre player. he was set. Great fielding got him out.

rajin is playing his natural game. his new found natural game. I hope aftab doesn't play his until the second session. he needs to go into a cocoon for 30 overs.

Allrounder,

Bullshit that Zimbabwe are the only side you can get a win against.

OK, it's time for me to go out on a limb here.

This is the 1996 England side, matched up man for man against the current Bangladesh side

NV Knight : Javed Omar
*MA Atherton : Nafis Iqbal
+AJ Stewart : Pilot
N Hussain : Bashar
GP Thorpe : Ashraful
JP Crawley : Saleh
RDB Croft : Rafique
D Gough : Masrafee
AR Caddick : Baiysa
AD Mullally : Jubair
PCR Tufnell : Enamul Haque

I reckon that matches up pretty well myself. Atherton's a better bat than Iqbal, but the Bangladesh slow bowling is better.

I think Zim batting is much stronger than bowling. We have to bowled them twice to clinch the victory.Just look at there batting card against the BCC XI.Sibanda and Matsikenyeri are solid batsmen, and dont forget Taibu himself.

Zimbabweans 1st innings R M B 4 6
S Matsikenyeri retired 150 331 231 17 2
BG Rogers c Saqib Al Hasan b Tareq Aziz 44 83 59 7 0
V Sibanda c Shamsur Rahman b Shahadat Hossain 122 289 220 16 1
H Masakadza not out 92 209 139 12 1
BRM Taylor not out 77 160 118 10 1
Extras (b 3, lb 23, w 2, nb 9) 37
Total (3 wickets declared, 127 overs) 522

DNB: DT Hondo, P Utseya, E Chigumbura, T Panyangara, *+T Taibu,
T Mupariwa.
