Question Shakib asks for support and not too much expectations all the time - CI

Shakib Al Hasan has urged Bangladesh's fans to be reasonable about their team's chances in the World T20. Similarly, he wants to be remain sensible and calm on the field, and expects the same from his team-mates.

"As the tournament is at home, we will have the support but there shouldn't be too much expectation," Shakib said. "I have heard people say, 'Let the cup stay at home.' But I think we have to tone that down a bit.

"Please support us, the team will do better. But everyone has to take the result sportingly. Too much expectation does put undue pressure on us."

I agree with the fellow. Too much of anything is bad for you. Same can be said for expectations.

I'm not in Bangladesh so I'm not sure on this, but I'd be very surprised if the actual expectation was for Bangladesh to win the tournament. I think fans love to dream that we can win it all and of course will support the boys in every match, but I think everyone would be pretty happy with us playing well, qualifying for the second stage, and pulling off an upset or two.

I'm not really fond of Shakib telling fans to "tone down" their dreams and aspirations. Believing that you can win the World Cup is the very first step in actually winning a World Cup.

Agree with chap. All we expect (or desire) is for everyone to give it their all.

I have never witnessed such low expectations before from my BKSP grad group. Not surprised in light of our recent losses, and widespread coverage of Mushfiq's contribution as captain in those games. Most of the guys I've talked to said that they won't be surprised if he manages to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with his brain dead field setting, bowler management, and nepotistic selection of the playing XI. But folks still expect us to play responsibly according to match situation and compete hard.

The last para is sensible. Belief is the step to big achievements but we emotional fans need to be realistic. Lets face it - the cup wont stay at home and we need to accept that and move on..and hope we perform outstandingly anyway!

Good mental strategy by BD. Make the expectation low, give a feeling to Afg that BD is concerned from them and make them overconfident (Which they get quite quickly) and on the start pounce on the associates and surprise them rather than being surprised. It also allows the players to go into the game mentally relaxed

Good physical strategy too... dropping all those catches and losing each and every game just so that the mental strategy doesn't seem out of place at all. Very well coordinated effort by the tigers.

Support in what sense? Does he want us to Lower our expectation to not qualifying from the group stages? It seems like a cover up incase we lost to Afghanistan. Anyways lets hope for the best.

I don't think many of us are expecting too much, maybe a win or two in the qualifying round if we are lucky. Just don't mess up your underpants at the sight of zadran. And no 58 all out please !!!

Mr big shot, can we at least expect bd to go to the 2nd round? Or will that expectation create too much pressure on you guys?

Why bother playing if they cant handle fan pressure? They should really learn how Indians deal with massive crowd anticipation.

First, captain said beating Afganistan was the primary target and then go through 2nd round, now Shakib is saying don't expect too much from them ! Too much expectation ? beating associate teams and go through 2nd round is too much expectations ? I am lost.

I think the goal now is to play in the main event. Even if we lose all matches in the 1st round, players will think "at least qualify to korsi, AFG ke haraisi, boro boro team er shathe khelsi, obhiggota paisi". This reminds me of our associate days when the dream was to qualify for WC.

After all these years, if he has to ask for support, that's a shame.
They should have earned it by now.
