Default Narine: The new spin "hero" or just another Mendis?

Now that Narine is going to play Test, beginning on Thursday against England, we will soon know that if he is the new king of spin or not?

The way some are rating him above the likes of Shakib on the basis of T20 performance, I do differ here big time. Though, he is a fine spinner, he has to prove a lot in near future what he is capable of.

Remember Mendis? Mendis was unplayable in his earlier days of Test debut and as soon the batters read him out, he became an "ordinary" spinner in no time.

If you have watched the IPL 2012 final, CKS batters seemed figured him out well. To me, it's just matter of time for the rest of the batters to take on him as well.

There is no doubt that he is a good spin bowler, though, he might never become an "Ice Man"? Time will have the say...

He had been brilliant this IPL no doubt.

We'll have to see more of him in ODI's or tests to decide whether he's another Mendis or an off-spin prodigy!

Let's compare their actions. Is Narine's action more inscrutable than Mendis's?

Mendis:

Narine (watch the first, third and fourth wickets in particular):

I think Narine is extreme version of Mendis. Although his mysteries will be uncovered soon but he's a much capable bowler. No need to compare or rate him with Shakib because they are two different bowler with different sorts of strategies and role.

Narine looks much better IMO. Gets way more turn and, most importantly, bounce.

Narine will be more successful than Mendis in the longer run

So far, Narine is the most expensive with "zero" wicket!

He will be worse than Mendis IMO..... He doesn't have varieties and he will be picked up & smacked all over pretty soon...

Test cricket is not a place where one can simply walk in and start to perform. Many great players had ordinary first season before turning into what they are today. We have to give Narine at least two more series to really see how good he is in the longer format. One thing he needs to learn is to be patient because unlike his four over spells where the batsman had to go for it... in test cricket it's more about consistency than variation.

very ordinary English tour for Narayon it's been.
wicketless in the only test.
1 wicket from 2 ODIS
wicketless in today's T20, eco rate 7.00

Take Zat to those who thought Narayon>>Sakib.

Why all these nasty remarks about Narine? Just because some commentators have presumptuously/idiotically called him the best spinner in the world? He seems like a nice person and I hope he becomes a fearsome spinner. England is hardly a spinner's paradise and England have played really, really well.

IPL hero big flop in England..
some starts calling him best spinner of the world, seeing him taking some Indian wickets in Indian wicket.

You only need to look at Swan's figures in the test match to assess how tough it was for spinners

not upto the mark, but he is still young. You never know he might become better onwards. This is intl cricket and one place where players generally improve if they are prepared to work hard

i get mesmorised how Narine produces many fantastic deliveries with a straight arm delivery. Its talent that needs to adjust itself to particular conditions.

People didn't really like the fact that Narine was KKR's first choice ahead of Shak so I guess taking a chance to bash him. Everyone might have found out about him because of IPL, but he's been playing some time now. Its not like he was a one hit wonder. He had a great CLT20 last year that's why he went for 700 grand. He also had a really good series against Australia.

Narine bowled really well in the teatweanty series vs NZ.
Seems like teatwenty is the format for him.
