Default the bowling attack...

what happened?

an attack that was conceding minimum of 320 in 50 overs, has in successive matches limited the #1 and #3 ranked teams to 200. whats happened?

is JS finally doing something or is it something else.

Mashrafe bowled outstanding except the last over. The slow bowlers were very effective on this pitch. The fielding was also excellent. I think today was one of those days when everything clicked for our bowling. It is amazing to see that we have a 7 bowlers squad now. Bravo, lets hope the batsman returns their dues

It's the pitches really, The Pitches in Pakistan where Belters and the ones in Darwin and Mirpuir are slow, The weren't rippers like the ones in Lanka but these pitches are perfect for us. A little Early Moisture + Mashrafe = Good Things. The Pitch wasn't hard (We Could have scored 275) to bat on I Suspect NZ to get around 260 to 270 next time

The Fielding has been Much better as well

Regardless of what type of pitch 199/5 vs the #1 Team and 201/9 vs a Deep batting Line up is Imppresive

BD's bowling attack against AUS was excellent too. So it was coming just needed a good batting to see the victory.

Its the Srilankan bowling coach. He's been working with the bowler for quite sometimes now.

He has worked with the bowlers for a few days before they tour Australia. And still working with them.

ODI Career wickets -

rafiq 119
mash 115
razzak 109

can mash ger 4 more, and razzak 10 more, in the next 2 games

I think both are equally likely to happen - not very likely.

I dont know why ppl are ridding off NZ. This team is quite a good ODI team. So restricting both Aus and NZ to 200ish is a good sign. Our bowling was never that bad really it was always the batting that the main culprit of all culprit.

A fired-up Mashrafe makes a huge difference. I also think the fielding has been improved greatly.

Sorry to burst the ballon. Our pace attack was crap yesterday. Rasel was rusty and Rajib was pitching everywhere. It was Mash who killed the Kiwi bird with spectular display of pace bowling. Rajjak and Sakib maintain their standard but bear in mind spinners always feel comfortable when the come to bowl when opposition number six is batting. Nayeem was a complete unknown to the Kiwi and he actually bowled on par with Raj and Sakib. Riyad is a crap. He is neither a batsman nor a bowler and apprently not a fielder. We still two bowlers short in ODI, in WC 07 our bowling was much stronger (Mash, functional Rasel, Raj, Rafiq and Sakib
Shehwar put is rightly Its scary how heavily we depend on Mash!

THANK YOU. At least someone besides myself has got that through their heads. Guess watching the match at the ground helped. Riyad is completely useless. Waste of a spot.

Early wickets. That's all. Even the best teams looks like "meao" cat once few wickets fall.

Early Wickets
Mash Effect
Raj backup
Home field and familiar wicket advantage

All those worked in our favor in the first match. Our problem has never been the one-off performance. Our problem has been consistency. That's why a series win is more important for us to even start talking about progress. I will also take a TOUGH series loss because we are playing a strong NZ side. Before I forget - NZ not playing any ODi since July also worked in our favor. The loss didn't give teir top order the opportunity to shake off the rust. Let's hope the lack of match practice and another MASHRAJ extravaganza keeps NZ around the 200 mark and a BIGZTIEID batting pulls thorugh in the 2nd/3rd ODI.

I also get the feeling that with the thought of ICL not being their primary concern (which certainly effected the ICl players during the Aus tour), the national players were able to focus solely on the match yesterday.

Perfectly put.

We infact have the golden opportunity of taking the series. Rest of team should also join the party now.

One more factor is working as well, "the better performers will get an opportunity in next IPL" That's making them more serious & motivated. There is no better incentive than lots of $$$$$ (Modern day carrots)

If shahadat gets a bit sensible, we have a very good attack. In fact he wasn't prepared to take the new ball in 1st ODI. Clearly the plan was, that Rasel will continue for 8 overs with the new ball, whille mash will be for 5/6 overs, then either Raz/shahadat will replace Mash. But the plan didn't work.

I don't know what they are planning now, if they aren't confident with anyone else, they should keep shahadat prepared for opening with Mash. Atleast he will have the frame of mind to start with.

Hope the bowlers keep their good work up in the second ODI. I thought Ash has used the bowlers pretty intelligently & didn't suffer from indecision at any stage to remove some one or to bring in. Good stuff.
