Default West Indies in England 2012

West Indies Test squad to tour England

Darren Sammy (capt); Kirk Edwards (vice-capt); Adrian Barath; Darren Bravo; Shivnarine Chanderpaul; Narsingh Deonarine; Fidel Edwards; Assad Fudadin; Shannon Gabriel; Kieran Powell; Kemar Roach; Denesh Ramdin; Ravi Rampaul; Marlon Samuels; Shane Shillingford

good to see the young pacer gabriel coming into the fray, i think they could have brought C Brathwaite, richardson or cotterell in for rampaul. good to see ramdin back, i don't know why they aren't calling up russell or pollard or sarwan or even dwayne bravo and obviously still issues with gayle which is why he's not there.

narine missing to i should mention. WI have so many good players who aren't playing in the team, they could actually be quite a good side if all their top players played imo. imagine an XI looking like this:

1 gayle
2 k edwards
3 sarwan
4 darren bravo
5 chanderpaul
6 pollard/bravo/samuels
7 russell
8 ramdin
9 roach
10 edwards/richardson
11 shillingford/narine

Gayle frees himself up for WI

Just wondering if he would've done the same if it was in expense of the IPL?

i would guess no.....sucks for the county team but gayle has been put in the worst situation, had to do this otherwise no chance of playing for WI.

This will be an interesting series. For the Windies, it's a chance to prove their progress on a bigger stage while England will be treating this series as preparation for the main event of the summer - the series v South Africa. With Gayle back, I can see WI giving England a good fight in the ODIs and T20s but I don't see them getting a Test win. England are just too strong at home. Interesting that WI have picked Shillingford as their specialist spinner. He should be prepared to have his action questioned by the high-browed English commies - especially if he's getting wickets. Also I feel sorry for Lendl Simmons, he was proving to be a very good opener for WI but looks like his injury was pretty serious. Hasn't played in a while.

The West Indies getting smacked against the Lions. 141/8 after 45 overs

Not surprising really. It's really hard to understand what the West Indian selectors are doing. If they dropped Brathwaite, then why not drop Barath as well? In my opinion he deserved to get the chop as well. He should've played in the A team tour against India. Why not put Dwayne Smith in there as opener? I'm sure he would've done well. Pollard, Gayle, Russell, and Bravo deserve to be there in the Test team as well. Imagine how good that Test team would be? Also they desperately need better wicketkeepers then Ramdin and Baugh.

Pollard for test team? Nah man ODI and T20 that's all he is good for. I'm sure he can contribute in test with ocasional 30s and 40s but I'm not sure if you can expect big things from him in the longer version.

I was thinking the same bro but his temperament has improved. Also Gayle was really successful even in Tests by maintaining the aggression. Pollard has that special talent where he can force bowlers in to submission with his power and force which the current West Indian batsmen lack. I mean look at how successful Sammy has been with the bat and he's not nearly as good as Pollard. So they should give it a try.

Didn't we all though the same for Warner?

but look at him now?

i know player like Warner comes once in 100 yr but There is no harm trying so Pollard should be given few chances to see if he can cope with the red ball...

Yup Warner who was deemed as a specialist T20 player has done well so far as a Test opener. Kohli is another guy who was T20 player and now is doing well in Tests. Bottom line is if you can bat, you can play Tests.

To be fair to the Windies, the conditions in England are horrible at the moment. Overcast with intermittent showers pretty much everyday so it's not much of a surpirse to see them struggling in these conditions. Look at the some of the County scores and you'll know what I mean, it just hasn't been a fair contest between bat and ball. Having said that, I agree about Barath. I don't see why he's rated so highly. And like I said, WI are missing Simmons as an opener who was very consistent before getting injured. I also agree that Pollard, with his natural aggression, would fit in to the Test team. He has a FC average of 38 which is pretty decent for a WI batsman. But I don't think Dwayne Bravo would add much value to the Test team.

Well done Taylor for that century! It's time that James Taylor gets a chance in the Test team. England have tried Bopara and Morgan already who haven't delivered. He could easily slot in at the #6 spot.

In the end, Bairstow ends up getting the call ahead of Taylor. Very interesting to see considering how Taylor seems to have the much stronger resume. At the same time though Bairstow looks to be a real talent and certainly isn't a bad choice either.

Bravo and Barath have really thrown away such good starts. Just shows how these 2 still have some ways to go. No doubt they have talent but they need more experience at this level.

Bravo was run out by Chanderpaul. He didn't throw away anything, he was sacrificed by his team mate.

But why attempt a run there. Thare wasn't a single available and he just ran to that side.

Come on Windies.....their performance has been very impressive this year...too bad they couldn't win any of the test matches.....

I can't even imagine what will happen if Gayle and Narine decides to play in WC t20 :S
