Ok, now Lara has 25 test tons in his account, I wonder how many centuries he would have had with his name if only double and triples were counted as individual centuries. Funny he just scored a quadruple still this will be considered simply as a "century" in record book

Congrats to the great guy!!
Just a superb example of how big an innings can be by a batsman...!
Newly rising BD batsmen may just take a look at it, then take a deep breath and prepare themselves for the Greater Scale of cricket!!..
we will be expecting some really big scores(maybe something around 200's will be practical for now) from our batsmen in the near future.. not just 50's or 100's.

1996: Receives written reprimand from the WICB after several verbal outbursts. Named International Cricketer of the Year.

1997: Leads West Indies to victory in his only Test as captain against India in Barbados in March when Courtney Walsh is absent through injury. Confirms he is to return to Warwickshire and the county makes him their captain for 1998 season.

1998: Replaces Walsh as West Indies captain after they lose Test series 3-0 in Pakistan.

November - Sacked as West Indies captain after a pay dispute with cricket board puts imminent tour to South Africa in jeopardy. After four days of talks in a Heathrow hotel is finally reinstated as captain and tour goes ahead.

1999: Nightmare tour of South Africa as West Indies are whitewashed. Comes back to form in the tour by Australia. West Indies knocked out in the group stages of World Cup.

2000:<

February - Disastrous series in New Zealand, where the Windies lose both Tests and all five one-day internationals. Resigns captaincy on completion of the tour and announces he is taking a break from the game. Misses home series with Zimbabwe and Pakistan.

May 11 - Included in West Indies squad to tour England, but not as captain despite speculation he may opt out.

West Indies lose summer series in England 3-1 after winning first Test in Edgbaston. Lara averages just 26.55.

December - Drops out of the top 10 of the ratings of Test cricketers for the first time since 1994.

2001<

November - Hits 688 runs in the tour to Sri Lanka, including a high score of 221 - but cannot prevent the West Indies slumping to a 3-0 series defeat - the Sri Lankans' first ever series whitewash in their 19-year Test history.

2002<

West Indies crash out of the World Cup in South Africa at the opening Pool stage.

2003<

Regains the West Indies captaincy for the home series against Australia, which is lost 3-1.

June - Guides the West Indies to a 1-0 win in the two-Test series against Sri Lanka. An innings of 299 helps Lara to a series average of 149.50.

November - West Indies win series in Zimbabwe, but then go on to lose the four-Test series in South Africa.

2004<

March - Out for a duck in both the first and second Tests as England take command of the four-match series in the Caribbean.

April - England win the third Test by eight wickets in Bridgetown, Barbados to clinch their first series win in the Caribbean since 1968.

April 11 - Scores 313 not out as West Indies take control of the fourth Test in St John's, Antigua - becoming only the second player in Test cricket history to score two triple centuries.

April 12 - Breaks Matthew Hayden's world-record Test score of 380, reaching 400 before the Windies declare on 751 for five.

West Indies captain Brian Lara has said he received a congratulatory phone call from Matthew Hayden after breaking the Australian's world batting record in the fourth test against England on Monday.

Lara became the first man to score 400 runs in a test match, regaining the record that Hayden had snatched from him with his 380 against Zimbabwe in Perth six months ago.

"He expressed that he had been listening (to the match) and was very happy for me and my family," Lara said at the end of the third day's play.

"I really do appreciate that he took the time out to call."

Lara said he believed the record was a possibility from the time he reached 200 for the seventh time in tests.

"At the end of the first day, I felt that the pitch was good and that if any batsman applied himself they could make a big score.

"I realised that the rate I was scoring at, there was a lot of time left in the game and it was possible."

With England holding a winning 3-0 lead in the four-match series, Lara reiterated that he would have liked to have scored more runs in the previous tests but hoped his innings would be a spur for West Indies to go on to better things.

"I am proud, definitely. I didn't miss having the record but it's great to have it again. Hopefully we can go on to win this and we can begin to get West Indies back on top again."

Declaring on 751 for five wickets, the home side have a good chance of salvaging some pride in the series after reducing England to 171 for five, 381 runs short of avoiding the follow on with two full days remaining.


GREAT REACTION

The West Indies captain said he had received several other phone calls to congratulate him almost ten years to the day after he made 375 to break the record held by another West Indian, Gary Sobers.

"The reaction has been great. I had a call from my Prime Minister (Patrick Manning) and also one from the golfer who has just finished second in the U.S. Masters, Ernie Els, who is a good friend of mine."

While Lara said he expected someone to break the record before too long, England captain Michael Vaughan was not as certain.

"It could be a while before anyone else scores 400," Vaughan said. "So the record could stand for a long time.

"It is an amazing achievement, to bat for two days and give only a half-chance is incredible.

"We gave him everything we had and he just threw it back at us. He is a true great of the game."
