Default Are We Really An Improved Team?

Now that the National team have been populated by the "Next Generation" cricketers, We were led to believe that this is the team that will actually start to win some games against the top teams. Since the beginning of the year we haven't won a single games plus in this test match it looks like we are going to lose by an inning. How is this any different than before?

Almost similar as before, its a false sense of improvement. Check the score cards the series before against india, they are identical.

In 2000, the very first test, we ran India close.

That's exactly what I picked up. Even the previous team has once in a blue moon success against top team coupled with few good innings in test but we were never able to continue the momentum. In the end this is the same team with same result but just different faces.

well score might look same but then again this generation has provided us with more centuries and more 5 wicket hauls then the previous one's (if even any). And it's not only our team who is build up with new faces; every single team has been loaded with new generation of players but unfortunetly our cricket structure in the country is very poor which means the other teams are able to provide better players then ours. It is not that we have not improved, it is more like the opposition has provided with better new players then ours who which lacks more technic then the opposition players but they have better technic then our previous players; that's the reason we always seem to feel like we have no improvement. So to sum it up yes our new generation of players are better then the previous ones but the opposition's new generation players are also better then most of their old players and that is why there is a feel that we never go a step farther then we want to!!

the rise of sakib al hasan and the two shonar manik batsman riyad and naeem made us that the team is improving. Everyone got the scanning picture. The real picture tells you that without them it's the same type of 2002-2004 bd team.

Definitely we have improved. It's true we are losing but we managed to push India in the first Test and fighting hard in the second Test after top order mass sucicide.

Have a look at the following scorecard from 2007 series and you should be able to see the difference -

I would say the team is improving, many would say that our good performances were the mist and today's performance was the true picture. I beg to differ, I say 2nd test's performance was the mist. We have been playing decent cricket for a while now, and anyone who is doubting the improvement should look back at the past couple of years.
The problem that we still have is consistency, yet again we fail to put our mark in the 2nd consecutive test.
The problem we will always face is, regardless of how much we improve, we have to improve at a much greater rate than the big boys in order to compete with them. But I am sure with the current bunch + 2 more dependable batsmen we can be a really good team.
Keep faith in the team.

PS: our bowling at this moment is better than ever before. I have never seen our pacers bowl with so much fire. Now the task is to make a 4 good ball over into a 6 good ball over.

there is definitely improvement, especially in bowling. the bowling is test-class now, never mind what sehwag says.

let me make a prediction here : BD-NZ series will be the closest fought series yet, BD bowling will perform superbly but will lose series to NZ due to batting failure.

Exactly, as before we will put up a great fight against a lower tier top team but then end up losing. This is business as usual. Where is that extra impetus to actually win?

The end result.....lost by an innings and some runs, which will be the case this time too in the 2nd Idea cup test.

As a team we didn't improve that much but some individuals are showing good class.
Sakib bttng/bwling so well,Shahadat too.
Ryad(odi & test) & Mushy(in test) are outstanding.
TI unlucky to have partners such as IK,SN,JS but still contributes well engh.
I think it's the expectation which is pressurizing the top & middle order btsmn.

True,I think its a shame we cant find a competitive 2nd and 3rd Batsman. IK,SN,JS are maybe good in Domestics but are a lost cause in the international arena.

bro, the peak has not been crossed yet but the movement is consistently upwards.

let's keep things in context shall we ? this is currently no1 ranked team in the world, they absolutely trounced SL recently in similar conditions. and the batting line-up is filled with some of the greats to have ever played the game.
make no mistake about it, the Indian batting was seriously troubled by the bowlers today and although they don't have the results to show for it, against any other batting line-up in the world they would have got 10 wkts for less than 400 today.

if the bowlers can bowl like this in more conducive conditions, they will give even aus or SA a run for their money, not to mention NZ or Eng.

the weaknesses are :
a) batting
b) comparative bowling inexperience. I mean shahadat is the senior bowler ?
c) captaincy needs to improve. shak needs to be more aggressive and proactive.

go and check the domestic records. there are a number of players with far better domestic record than these 3 who haven't got a chance.

Day 3 of the 2nd test would tell us a lot about our improvements, if any.
Remains to be seen whether our talented batsmen fold themselves up for 200 runs to hand the indians yet another innings victory, or can they make them bat again??

If they can, i'd say we have improved.
Otherwise, its just notun botole puran mod.

Certainly, catching-wise NO. How many times has Tendulkar been dropped in this series ? I am losing count. And how many did he score each time ?

In a similar situation [ actually much worse situation ] 3 years ago, Ashraful decided to score 63 off 30-odd balls and everyone extolled his virtues. Breaking world records and what not ! Nobody thought for a moment that his job was not to break world records but to bat as long as possible.

If he bats again like a moron, he should be dropped from the New Zealand tour !
