Default The Ultimate Test Thread

So ODI series into the basket and the one off useless T20 about which no one should care, it's time to give proper attention to real cricket that is Test Cricket.

Pakistan is still a formidable Test side and we will face huge problems in the series imo. Younus Khan and Misbah will return. Junaid is a great Test bowler without a doubt.

We don't have a good fast bowling unit yet in Test. Think only if our batsmen play some long innings then we can probably draw otherwise I hardly see any chance. We should look forward to build a good Test unit.

Tamim - auto choice, barring fitness issue
Litton - best choice out there now
Momin - auto choice
Riyad - auto choice
Shakib - auto choice
Mushfiq - auto choice
Nasir - has done enough for a come back
Taijul/Sabbir - depends on whether Hathuri wants to play with an extra spinner (aggressive strategy) or batsman (defensive strategy)
Zubair - should be there given Pakistanis are not the best against leggies
Rubel - not the best in Test, but should be there
Al Amin - best Test pacer we have atm

Reserve: Shafiul (if fit), Taijul/Sabbir, Rony (need to be groomed as a back up option)

Kayes not doing bad in last few series. Cant drop him caz of limited overs yet. I dont see the need to pack the team with so many spinners since younus, misbah, shafiq and co are great players of spin

I'd be willing to take risks and include Sabbir and Soumya in the squad. Sabbir has the temperament for any format and I think Soumya is ready as well. Both of them are better than our recent experiment, Shuvagata Hom.

Taskin would have been a good choice for bowling. Unfortunately he should be shielded from the stress of test cricket for at least one more year.

I would like to have 3 pacers in the team. It's always a good strategy to play with 3 pacers. This gives the captain enough option to put pressure on the opponent batsmen. Also the summer heat can be very much tiring for pace bowlers and make them injury prone. So an extra pacer should give enough rest to pacers and save them from injury.

Instead of worrying too much about their strength, we should play to our own strength.

Reality is that we don't have good Test quality pacers, and the pitch will not help much anyway. Thus we don't have much of an option but to relay on our spinners to take wickets.

Tamim
Kayes
Mominul
Mushy
Mahmudullah
Shak
Anamul (wk)
Abul
Jubair/Taijul
Al Amin
Rubel

this is the most balanced team. Two frontline spinners and mahmudullah is more than half the frontline spinner in test. Three pacers and batting up to no. 8. Anamul should return. Its too early for guys like Soumya, Taskin, Sabbir to play Tests.

That seam attack won't take any wickets on these surfaces.

^^ I am assuming you want Taskin to be risked in the Test series?

That will be big No from me, given his injury history.

Test cricket should be scrapped all together. Useless waste of five days. India, please do something.

We aren't good at test in terms of wins, we never have won against any top 8 at test, been close lot of times, drew games, but not won. So I wouldnt cry if test cricket expired tomorrow from the game of Cricket, tbh.

We should pick Jubair, we need a leggy against Pakistan, they struggle against legspin.

In last 5 years, most successful Test bowler against them is Herath, followed by Swann. So, it's actually quite tempting to take both Taijul and Jubair against Pakistan.

Batting should mostly be same as it is now. Shabbir/Nasir out Mominul in. Bowling i would like to see Al Amin, Shafiul, Taijul, Jubair.

It's not just Swann or Herath, traditionally Pakis struggle against spin, even during the days of Anwar, Inzy and Yusuf. Shane Warne (destroyed them in WC99 final), Mcgill, Kumble (got 10 in one innings in Eden Gardens), Muttiah, Harbhajan, Vettori all had very good records against Pakis.

I think Robiul Islam must be picked, he's one bowler who consistently does well in tests, I wonder why he only played 2 ODIs.
