Default Interview with Ian Pont

Coach Ian has graciously agreed to an interview with BanglaCricket. Looking at all the recent threads and posts, I know we all are clamoring to ask him a thousand questions. Unfortunately, we can't - he has a job to do. I will do the next best thing - why don't you all post your questions here, and we at BanglaCricket will use that as a guide for our interview when we do talk to him.

We will keep this window open for a few days to gather everyone's questions.

Q. In the current team, the fast bowlers are towering above 6'. But in general we[bangladeshis] are not physically built to bowl quick. DO you think this is why we have so few up and coming fast bowlers, and what would be your solution?

Is there any plans for you to scout other bowlers in BD, from the different domestic tournaments during your tenure?

2. Are we going to see any surprise in WC regarding bowling? Vastly improved bowler or surprising trick?
3. Who has the most potential among our current lots?

What's your view on Jamie Siddons? When you first joined the national team did you think Jamie had the players going in the right direction?

Q. Do you think Rubel and Shafiul has the ability to consistently bowl over 145km/h?

Q Is Mashrafee ever going to bowl at full throttle again?

Q Are you going to try and find young new fast-bowling prospects?

Q Do you think Bangladesh will eve have a Brett-Lee/Shoaib Akhter of its own? Or someone like Wasim Akram?

Q Would you be interested in extending your contract ?

Q Is your method of making the bowler increase his pace, also going to make the bowler more injury-prone?

Q Are you enjoying your stay in Bangladesh?

Here are my questions...will be very happy if you can ask any of them !

1. How is the preparation going on ? Are you satisfied with the progress of our fast bowlers ?

2. Do you think it is a good idea to put Junaid and Jahurul into bowling practice just before the World Cup ? Do you not think, this may put extra burden on their main duties as batsman ?

3. According to you, what are the key attributes that distinguish a good pacer from ordinary pacer ?

4. Which one do you prefer...1) uprooting the stamps with sheer pace or 2) foxing the batsman with slower butterfly bowl.

5. Are you comfortable working with other bowling consultant if BCB appoints him before World Cup ?

6. In this short period, what are the weaknesses that you have noticed in our bowlers ? and how are you working on those ?

7. If you are given 2 years Contract as Bowling Coach, what will be you goals and how do you want to achieve those ?

8. Do you have any future plan to be Head Coach of Bangladesh ? or just happy being as Bowling Coach ?

9. Apart from National team players, have you got any chance to watch any other bowlers in domestic league who seem to be promising ? (i knw...one player that he already mentioned... Rabbi)

10. Where do you want to see Bangladesh Team after 5 years ?

Thats all for time being...will come up more questions later.

Is the existing domestic framework (competition formats/facilities/coaching at all levels) adequate for pacing bowling to flourish over the long-term? What can BCB do more to ensure we unearth quality pacers on an ongoing basis?

Q. What made you interested in coaching BD?
Q. If an IPL offer comes to you, would you choose that job over current job?

Why do so many of our pacers have inconsistent seam position at time of release?
Why, given sub-continental conditions do we have more seamers than swing bowlers? Given the flatness of our pitches, air must be where we make the ball do its thing right?
Are you able to give any mini-courses to local coaches to enhance their ability to coach in fast-bowling?
Any chance of you using your county contacts to get Minor County offers for any of the current players (especially pacers)

q. We've heard that you could make any pacer around 5 mph faster. Do you think Rubel & Shafiul can achieve that which would make them bowl close to 150 kph?

q. Being a specialist in coaching fast bowlers, what do you think you can do for our spin-dominated bowling attack?

q. Are you happy with the support you are getting here?

q. What are the main weaknesses of our pacers (& Spinners)? Can you help us to get rid of that before the world cup?

q. Do our pacers have the quality to play County Cricket?

q. Who is the most impressive bangladesh bowler?

q. Are you interested to work with bowlers outside the national team?

q. What about Golam Kibria Ashique? How far he is away from making the cut?

Can you develop some pacers who can bowl express pace (145+ kmp)?
