Default what does Ashraful\'s and Aftab\'s success in ODI mean in Test cricket?

Even though One day cricket is the way to be world champs, Test cricket is the biggest prestige in the sport.

Will their success in the short game improve there game in tests? I think aftab is not gonna change he'll have a SR of 100 whenever he bats Test or One day, ashraful i think will have to do some soul searching about his test game to figure out the way he's gonna play. He try's to play long innings and he looks at the scorebard alot! when he sees 5 runs of of 18 that aggrivates him alot and then he throws his wicket away.

So will there one day success work for them in tests?

It means Bangladesh have a real middle order.

A batting lineup that can regularily score 550-600 runs makes life much, much easier for bowlers.

Basically, if Shahadat can turn into a Test quality bowler, there's the attack - 2 quicks, Aftab, Enamul and Rafique.

Most of the aggressive batsman do even better in Tests compared to ODI.

Sehwag, Gilchrist, Lara, Tendulkar, Ponting......there's many examples in other teams. In our team, we have Bashar who is not a good ODI batsman, but plays much better in Tests.

BTW.... you are missing a big point cricman.

BD started playing in england and took a lot of time to get adjusted to the conditions and get over the fears about it. They did very bad in the early matches and started doing better in later ones. Unfortunately the earlier matches were the Tests... so they did bad in tests... but still managed to do well in their 4th innings.

The horrible performance has more to do with the time they needed to get in the games rather than the type or the match (test or ODI). If you claim that Ash is useless in tests... then how do u define Ash's 158* vs. india? I still believe if he had got enought support from the other side.. he would have made the first ever double-ton by any BD batsman on that day!!

Lets give them time and patient support untill they do better in tests instead of claiming them to be not good in tests.

We're still missing a good opening pair. Middle order alone will not get you 550-600 runs.

I agree with the rest of the observations.

In grand scheme of things, I think, JO-Nafees Iqbal would make a good test opening pair in course of time. Iqbal needs to adjust his game a bit and learn to move his feet to get on top of the ball which will make him successful in places like England, Australia and SA.

If Shahadat come of age then, as Ian W suggested, we will have decent striking force in Mashrafee-Shahadat-Rafique-Enamul with Aftab providing stock bowling option. Tapash, Talha et al can come in the team where we need to play 3 prong pace attack. Shahadat has reasonable control over his line but if he can adjust his length according to condition/pitch, develops a good slower ball and bowl yorker length ball with perfection then he would compliment Mashraffee better.

Test batting wise, Bashar-Ashraful-Rajin-Aftab middle order should be able to score 300-350 runs per innings consistently.

I think Mushfique babu will never been in test team again in normal circumstances. He is a mediocre bits 'n pieces player at his best. I hope we wont need them anymore. Hannan needs to regain his confidence again and sort out his technique against quality left arm swing bowlers. Untill then i'm very much doubtful.

Kapali may eventually come back to team if he can translate his 'potential' to runs in the middle.
