Alexa doesn't represent anything. It can be faked.

Actually Alexa is a very well-known and trusted source for site traffic. The top 3 sites are probably accurate anyway.

It was pumping malwares only few years ago. Well known for the way it used to drive surfers crazy. It is anything but trust worthy.

Unfortunately no. For the real top visited sites the numbers might make some sense but it is very easy to fake ratings on Alexa.

All you really need is a proxy and a browser with an Alexa toolbar to imitate the unique visits, and the job a good one. I don't bother with Alexa however, it is really pointless unless you have a real high ranking.

Didn't know about the malware 'few years ago' though I know there are ways to get fake ratings on sites like these, much like dozens of ways to increase ranking on search engines. I meant "Alexa" doesn't necessarily fakes the ratings, majority of those sites gets hundreds of millions of hits eitherway and there are millions of sites competing for traffic.

Thats because people actually watch football coz more channels broadcast it. People dont sit in front of FIFA website to watch live score unlike cricket only 1 or 2 channels broadcasts it many people who dont get to see it log on to cricinfo to see live scorecard with commentry.

It is comparing apples with oranges and those figures dont say anything of popularity of cricket over football.

People do sit in front of OTHER websites to get live scores of football (I refuse to call it soccer). I've done that myself..and everyone at my work does it too! :p

Do they sit all day? I dont think so?

Football usually doesnt have those live match commentry features with scorecard. Even if they do more people sit with cricinfo than fifa.

When there is a test match with BD, many ppl watch from open to close all day and night. Sometime cricinfo server goes down coz of the traffic. FIFA doesnt have all that stuff going on.

Hitler, I am no way comparing the popularity of football with cricket. I know and understand fottball is way ahead in popularity. The point is, a cricket site is getting more traffic than a major football major by a good margin.

May be you're forgetting. Football isn't played all day. Cricket is. And yes, they do have live commentry. It may not be as nicely done as cricinfo, or may not even be widely popular...but yes it happens.

That explains it. It does happen but not in such big numbers.

I am surprised to see Yahoo above Google... I'm not sure about that.

Glad to see Wikipedia so high!

IIRC, Alexa spyware comes bundled with IE. You can remove it using nLite. Ad-Aware/Spybot probably detects Alexa, too.

So if you're not using IE or don't have alexa in your system, then it can't track your browsing activity.
