The X-Factor of BD: Who has it?
So as I open the news today online, I see a weird ploy by Angels coach Scioscia, to send shy rookies to interview Phoenix Suns cheerleaders and write about the experience. Talk about being sent on a hellish chore! Madness may be, but surely there’s method in’t. In sports like cricket where games become territorial, it befalls on the alpha male of the species to show who is in charge by marking the boundary.
In our Bangladeshi culture, we are taught to think too literally instead of laterally. Showing off is frowned upon, confidence is twisted as overconfidence and signs of haughtiness and Scioscia tactics would be a matter of derision. Yet nuances such as these whacky ideas are the sparks of inspiration in many multi-billion dollar corporations in the United States and other first-world countries. Thinking or doing anything out of the box prevents one from getting too tunnel visional or myopic in mind games.
And trust me, when athletes move on from the untrained stage of Unconscious Incompetence to Unconscious Competence these little dints can be the source of many dents to enemy’s armor. Coach Siddons has done some exercises with soccer ball, but I am here to preach to my fellow choirs so as not to start ridiculing creative channels like in illiterate manner.
Sehwag, Gayle, Malinga, Roach, Dilshan, Afridi and even O’Brien in the last match seemed to have something which our players may not be consciously aware of. The so called X-Factor. Now granted such je ne sais quoi, intangible vibes of these brand name players does not necessarily win matches. But, if our players can summon this quality –where the very name would evoke respect and provoke opponents to go back foot- then it can certainly be wielded like Excalibur.
Although Bangladeshis have the number 1 ODI all rounder or Tamim Iqbal blitzkrieg, unfortunately neither of these two are result of oneirogmophobia of our beloved adversaries. Hearken back to faded memories of Mohammad Ashraful Matin who used to have this suchness: whenever he came to the center of stage, to use theatrical term, he OWNED his space.
So along with basic amenities such as improving agility, balance, coordination, speed, fine and gross motor skills, kinematic awareness, body mechanics, with the mental aspect of positive attitude, focus and concentration, relaxed alertness as well in harmony with the team, one should not be shy to step up to the plate and express his individuality. No, it doesn’t call for coming to stadium in birthday clown costume, rather project the attitude that is befitting of a territorial beast as Tigers, who when steps in their environment, makes it known, who is the real jefe in charge of the game.

Well he has nothing to lose. This guy has hit the lows of lows. So he better free up his arms and play with no inhibition (both mental and freudian). Seiously....he should be like "F,it I don't care about being selected or not or anything like that in future. Why not play the innings of my life? Take calculated risks, no stupid airy shots or nick, just enjoy my game."

I believe it is one of the faster bowlers, like Rubel or Shahadat.
