Not all associates are the same. Ireland and in the near future, Afghanistan belong. Not sure the others do. Complete lack of public support in those countries don't help.

I doubt they will make any last minute changes. But if they do, I'll be extremely happy coz Ireland is doing great currently...and it will be a shame for ICC to not let the associates participate.

Even before this match their decision made no sense. We had an QuarterFinalist in 2007 and a Semi-Finalist in 2003 from the associates. ICC is run by some of the greatest fools and retarded persons of the earth.

It seems like all ICC try to make sure is that high profile teams do not get out quickly (like India, Pakistan, England). How else to ensure that, they do not get eliminated by associates? Don't let the associates play.

ICC was proposing 12 teams to play the next WC right? By that count the 11th team would have been Ireland anyway. So ICC can still persist with the 12 teams plan keeping everyone happy.
Netherland is doing ok, but Kenya & Canada are completely clueless this time.

or may be ICC can let the associates play and make a rule that in world cups, so called "upsets" points, don't count. They can rather put the QF and SF drawings directly and the other associates can play just for the heck of it.
Alternatively ICC can bring in more associates and play 8 groups with major 8 in each group, with 3 associates, this way its made sure the tourney is loooooonger and top 8 will go to QF for sure.
Man i deserver a job in ICC Scheduling committee.
I totally side with ICC here.
Cheers !

no way, ireland should lose that game on purpose if the could win it, because the whole reason there are no minnows is because India lost to us in 2007. PCB has no weight to throw around. its all BCCI with the historically elitist Aussies and Poms backing them up.
actually Swann had vouched for the Minnows...i wish Ireland had knocked that loser Ponting's teeth out after he had tried to talk them down.

WC with 10 teams is too small. 12 teams would be perfect.
10 test playing nations + 2 ICC Trophy teams (Champ & Runners up) !

Agree with you, it should be the top 2 Associates making up 12 teams.

A big slap on the fixture too. They did all these to make sure the big teams like Eng and India goes through. But some of them are still in danger of getting knocked out (More like knocked up, looking at Colly's face). Not to mention the slowness of it- one game a day, true bollywood style.

What if the groups had 4 teams like last time?
Ind-Eng-Ban-Irl
SA-NZ-WI-Zim
Aus-SL-Pak-Neth
This would've been so much more exciting.

Partying supporters send message to ICC
Quote:
A beaming Cricket Ireland president, Basil McNamee, was among the dozens of delighted Irish fans awaiting their heroes at the team hotel in Bangalore on Wednesday night, savouring "the best victory in Ireland's cricket history". The stunning upset of England, their fiercest sporting rival, not only threw Group B wide open and injected excitement into a long-drawn league phase that was expected to be boringly predictable, but also brought into focus the ICC's decision to shut out Associate nations from the 2015 World Cup.
"This win is just a dream come true," McNamee told ESPNcricinfo. "It also sends out a message that Associates can't be taken for granted by everybody, that we can surprise." Ireland's back-from-the-dead victory gives them a real chance of making it to the quarter-finals, with two wins from their remaining four matches likely to ensure their qualification.
Ireland's position was bleak after defeat in the opening game to Bangladesh, and sliding to 111 for 5 against England. The resilience they showed in constructing the largest ever World Cup chase particularly pleased McNamee. "We were used to being defeated. So when victory comes, a victory against England, it's absolutely wonderful," he said. "Not only that, our boys played so well. It looked several times that we were going to be second-best again but our boys dug in."
The travelling Ireland supporters had plenty of anxious moments in the tense chase, relief and joy finally taking over when John Mooney clipped a boundary to midwicket off the first ball of the final over. It was nearly two hours later that the Ireland team arrived at the hotel to a rousing reception from the already partying fans.
William Porterfield and the rest of the side soaked in the applause and cheers from the fans who turned the lobby into a sea of green and white. "It was great to see so many of our supporters out here," a composed Porterfield told ESPNcricinfo. "It was even better to give them something to cheer about."
Ireland broke a slew of records and charted new ground in their win - fastest World Cup century for Kevin O'Brien, biggest World Cup chase, and their first victory over England being the prominent ones - and Porterfield said the team hadn't yet realised the enormity of the achievement. "We got to let this sink in still," he said. "We've all grown up dreaming of moments like this in a World Cup, and we're going to enjoy this time with our family and friends and have a couple of drinks."
It was the end of a day that he said "definitely eclipsed any Irish cricket has had" but even then he was not distracted from the task ahead for Ireland. "We've got another four games left in the group, and hopefully we can give our fans something more to cheer about," he said. "We've got to back this up in our next few performances and hopefully qualify for the next stage."

From my post in the match thread:
Canada demonstrated their inexperience through their capitulation in Pakistan's hands today. I wouldve been REALLY happy if Canada had won.
Until ICC allows Associates to play against quality opponents more regularly they will continue to perform below par and suffer for their inexperience.
A telling day for world cricket.

I say make the full members earn the slots. Have every team but the host(s) go through qualifiers. With enough games the associates get their dose of healthy cricket vs. big names and if one of them gets knocked out to associates in the qualifiers they should have no right to be in the WC to begin with.

Qualifiers FIFA style?
I can see it -
Americas - 1 slot - West Indies, Canada, Bermuda, USA, ...
Europe - 1 slot - England, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, ...
Africa - 1 slot - South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Namibia, ...
Asia - 4 slots - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, Hong Kong, Nepal, China, ...
Australia + Oceania - 2 slots - Australia, New Zealand, ...
1 slot - the teams that just missed a slot from each region play each other round-robin for the 10th WC finals spot, so likely: Canada, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, ?? This is important because it leaves an opportunity for a "big" team to still make it through in case they flopped in the main qualifiers.
Of course, all teams play at least 2 matches against every other team in their qualifiers - 1 home, 1 away (unless away is in Pakistan, then "neutral" ... ?).
If a team is also the host (assuming only full members can host), a slot will be removed from the region. So, in case of 2015, all associates in Australia+Oceania have to play each other for 1 spot in the league of "just missed out" associates from the rest of the world.
10 teams in WC finals... one big round-robin thing leading to semi-finals where each pair play each-other 2-3 times (best of 3) and then the final pair 2-3 times again to decide the champion.
Sounds good to me.
Another idea would be to merge the Americas and Europe qualifiers, and the Africa and Australia qualifiers (so you have Americas+Europe = 2 slots, Asia = 4 slots, Africa + Australia = 3 slots, 1 slot from all the teams that just missed out)... that way those associates get more exposure to the "big" teams.
