I disagree with idiot brit bowlers part. Ash wasnt lucky with his bat, Ash was DAMN LUCKY that Chris Tremlett's ball bounced on top off the bails and fell behind the stumps when Ash got into bat. Since the bails werent dislodged, Ash had the biggest chance to life any cricketer can possibly get!

no, we don't need OBrien...Ireland need obrien.

we need our guys. and granted, our guys beat OBrien and his guys the last two times.

so we definitely don't need Obrien.

can we learn from his approach today? surely. did he play a stunner of an innings? absolutely. is he a solid player? this innings obviously says he is.

but remember a guy by the name of Coventry once scored 194*, and he can't even buy a run these days against Canada.

because all of our batsman played as if the target was 250 and not 370. except Imrul and shakib. but shakib effed up by not going for the PP. sure we could have been bowled out for 220 in 40 overs, but we DIDN'T GIVE OUR SELVES A CHANCE to cut our NRR gap, let alone go for an improbable win. tamim can be excused be he will rarely face 86 balls to score 70, and he can make it up in the space of 3 overs. i'll give Mushy a pass because he is our perfect anchor/grafter (as the Ireland game showed).

Junaid was the real buzzkill that game and if he fails against WI or hits a defeatist fifty, I'm gonna start threads to get SN in his place.

Let me share with you something...whether you have already relaized it or not....
Our players DO NOT know how to play in the Power Play...for which we dont see a Kevin (although I personally think Kevin was successful due to his good batting skills, some luck and England's terrible bowling)...we need much more experience and develop the skill of Batting under pressure...our players are still young and the learning curve in Cricket is not exponential...depends on self esteem, heroic mentality and maturity. Crowd support does help in some sort but our players need to be brave and build a sense of responsibility at the same time while playing under pressure. Experience counts too. None of our players play county cricket. WE have a LONG way to go before we can expect some of our lower order batsman to play like Kevin...sigh it is!

Sad to see defeatist 20s, 30s and 50s leading to "honorable" 230s are no longer cause for celebration around here.

Not just K O'B. We need their Spirit. The Spirit we had during 07 WC! That Spirit is LONG gone, as if Dav Whatmore took it along with him. JS's defensiveness is not helping either.

Were we this good when our cricketers were part time cricketers and full time workers? Or how was our 2nd World cup camping? Surely Ireland and their players benefited a lot from England (which also has a downfall = Morgan) and also keeping an eye on the fact that current state of cricket is much better than the 90s.

So how do you judge our early days vs Ireland early days?

They don't have moronic selectors and corrupt and egotistical cricket administrators and it shows. A sissifying coach would be booed out of the Emerald Isle as soon he opened his trap. They glorify their fighting spirit the way we ought to with our own spirit of 71.

The Irish have been playing international cricket since the 1920s, but started to make noise only recently. Eoin Morgan made it but Ed Joyce had to come back to momma after his short stint. Once the Irish gain test status as they should, all these guys will stay and play for Ireland.

But they will still be allowed/able to leave and play for Eng? Or is it once you a TT, you are done, your stuck with it? Can Morgan come back or is he stuck too?

I'm not sure but I don't think they'd be able to just hop on over and play for England as they do now with a simple call up. The English will have to resort to the same lengthier tactics they've used to pack their team with South Africans.
