Daily Star Round-table -- Invitation for BanglaCricket
Hey all...
Daily Star is organising a round-table on cricket called "STEPS FORWARD" on Saturday, September 20, 2008.
I thought that it would be great if someone from this forum/website would come to the Daily Star office at 19, Kawran Bazar, Dhaka.
I would prefer someone from the website (staff or moderator) attending the discussion. If a member is sent, that'd be great too.
Miraz bhai or anyone please confirm me as soon as possible by Friday and tell who's attending it. My number is 01717054619. Contact me before 5pm on Friday.
Thank you.

Thanks Dizzy. It will be a pleasure. It's now time for Admins to nominate someone for the discussion.

I am interested. I choose to present myself as one of the resident expert on matters related to BD Cricket and as someone who represent the interests of the cricket fans from Rajshahi, especially Himayatpur and Pabna.
Will Daily Star reimburse the travel cost? Florida to Dhaka is a little far but manageable.

Daily Star is rich enough but I think we should have someone a bit (!) closer to home. Could anyone bring this to the attention of someone like Miraz bhai or someone...really, really fast!

Miraz bhai lives in England... unless he is in bangladesh at this moment...
Rabz might be a good choice too, but ATMR is the best...

Sohel bhai is in Khulna with a project.
I think WarWolf bhai will be a good option. Specially, after having written that SL cricket structure article, you're already quite well known to the BCB folks.

Banglacricket staff like Eshen, cricman ?? I guess they are in Dhaka.
Won't probably be worth flying from UK/USA or anywhere. Coz most of these will be empty talks at the end and forgotten soon, as BCB will move as per their interests. But still why not try to attend and make some positive contribution.

Had it been Dec 20
Whoever goes, here is my point please address them with BCB. Or Dizzy you can put forward if no one have time.
1) Transparency. Be it on selection on national team, projects, funds etc.
2) Training. Coaching coaches.
3) Decentralize of power. Each board being their own entity. Be able to run their own facilities, budget, Junior program, Board A team program, senior program. Boards running their own school leagues. Having their own Physio (part-time), curator, coaches, weight room etc. I know this would take time but plans must be made ASAP.
4) National team issues: a) Video guy must be the most important strategist in the team. He is the one who would SWOT analysis (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat). Before any practice he needs to make handout for every player. Who will they face and what their strength and weaknesses are? b) How to overcome that would come from the coaches. c) Locker room must look like a war preparation room (green room). Lighting fire with patriotic speeches is a must. The lack of effort on field can too easily be indentified.
5) My offer (to BCB) to a free risk, project, resource, strategic management seminar still stands. The way to contact me is easy. PM me here or email me at: mijanul.akbar at arkansasag.gov.

100% agree with Mijan bhai. I am adding few more points.
- Strengthening the school cricket: We need to give enough opportunities to our young guns to play longer version of cricket. School cricket should have two forms. One is of 3 days tournament and another is of 50 overs limited overs tournament. If we can do it then we will have our own Sachin tendulkars within 4/5 years.
- In short term plan, BCB should send 10 curators to Australia to learn about fast bouncy wickets preparation. 5 of them will work under BCB head office while other 5 will work for the regional cricket boards.
- Need to have full time bowling coaches for the national team. One for pace bowling and another for spin. The pace bowling coach preferably should come from Pak who will know the tricks of reverse swing and yorker. The spinning coach preferably be a leggie.
- Cricket academy should have it's own ground and campus. I suggest it to set up out side of Dhaka. BKSP type of campus would be great with required facilities.

Good points from T_E & WW.
Please add:
1. Since Our domestic cricket is primarily revolving around divisions. More autonomy to Divisional Boards & More facilities at the divisional level. There should be age group teams even at the divisional level.
*If T_E (3) doesn't deal with the same.
2. Get sponsors to have some colorful T20 competitions to keep the popularity of the game alive and bring in some money for the fringe cricketers.
