Wait.
What's the purpose of this thread? It was opened to nominate someone? How did we nominate one person?
I really thought WarWolf would make a good rep. But looks like the nomination was done single handedly.
I didn't like it, personally.

No Kabir bhai, it was not done single handedly.
..and Thanks to Ahmed bhai for representing BC to the discussions table.

I just came back from the round-table discussion. Thanks to Tehsin bhai, Miraz bhai & WarWolf for writing their views to me. But what I would like to clarify to all of you at first, is that there was an incompleteness in the declaration made by dizzy in the thread-opening post. DS actually invited for a observer-participant from BC.. not an active-participant(i.e. speaker). There were strictly designated speakers (mostly current & ex BCB persons) and for the observes.. it was more like just being present there.. with very limited scope for raising any points (in written form & not verbal).
We will try to post a summery of the event later on.

Emon kichu hobe shetai normal.
It was highly unexpected to have everything falling in the right place.
Anyways, still it would be nice to know, what all were discussed accross the table.

Cricket The Daily Star Roundtable on Cricket
Focus on grassroots, better attitude, competent people aboard needed
Unanimously agreeing that more concentration must go to the grassroots, speakers at a roundtable organised by The Daily Star discussed several issues including the need for an efficient and professional management, better pitches, quality umpiring, exemplary leadership and contribution towards a positive attitude.
Former national captains, incumbent and former Bangladesh Cricket Board (CB) officials and current and former selectors expressed these views yesterday at the roundtable titled 'Bangladesh Cricket: Steps Forward'.
Sports Editor Mohammed Al-Amin, who moderated the lively five-hour session, opened the only the second Daily Star discussion on the country's leading sport at the office's Seminar Room in presence of fourteen top cricket minds.
Although the burning issue of the time remains the players' revolt and joining the rebel Indian Cricket League, the discussion began by focussing on the very basic of our country's game, the infrastructure and planning.
As the first speaker of the roundtable, BCB's game development chairman Shakil Kasem opened by recognising the need for better cricket at the grassroots level.

Relax mate. I personally liked the nomination. If you ask me then I would say as an individual person I wanted to go there. But as a BC member I really wanted some senior member to represent us. Bashir bhai has been the perfect choice IMO. He is senior and also an official who can represent BC perfectly. I wrote my opinion about the selection in a previous post.

I am interested to attend. But I think someone senior like Sohel_NR will be more effective.

Cheers mate. Thanks for considering me.
I would like to thank Bashir bhai also for taking up the pain of the urgent preparation and representing us. Good job done.

We saw in the list of participants that they even didn't care to mention us.
Yet, thanks Dizzy.

It was not my intention to mislead anyone, let alone Banglacricket. I should have been specific but I guess one should understand that in discussions such as this, journalists (or for that matter, forum moderators) are assumed observers. None of the Daily Star staff had a question to ask as the discussion was as lengthy. It took five hours to finish.
So I would once again like to say that I did not want to mislead anyone.
Thank you.

Hello Dizzy,
We had a roundtable discussion for 5 hours. So what is the outcome? What proposals were made? How can these proposals be implemented? Where the funds will come from? Who from BCB will take it to their board members? A summary would be nice. Or are you guys planning to publish it in your paper in near future?
Because without implementation all plans equate to ZERO. Assuming there was some recommendation made from this round table discussion. If no recommendation was made then I do not see the usefulness of the meeting. That would a great waste of everything.

- Strengthening the school cricket: We need to give enough opportunities to our young guns to play longer version of cricket. School cricket should have two forms. One is of 3 days tournament and another is of 50 overs limited overs tournament. If we can do it then we will have our own Sachin tendulkars within 4/5 years.
- In short term plan, BCB should send 10 curators to Australia to learn about fast bouncy wickets preparation. 5 of them will work under BCB head office while other 5 will work for the regional cricket boards.
- Need to have full time bowling coaches for the national team. One for pace bowling and another for spin. The pace bowling coach preferably should come from Pak who will know the tricks of reverse swing and yorker. The spinning coach preferably be a leggie.
- Cricket academy should have it's own ground and campus. I suggest it to set up out side of Dhaka. BKSP type of campus would be great with required facilities.

I think jacking up school cricket should be key long term plan. We have seen how SL got benefit out of it. There should be inter-school championship in district level. Winners and runners ups of the districts will compete again in national level. This is a must.
