Spammers

There has been an increased epidemic of link spammers. These are bots/people who register in forums to post links to commercial sites to artificially increase the site's search engine ranking.

You'll know them by a variety of ways.

They will be brand new members and the first post will be filled with random links to other sites.

They will usually have a number at the end of their nick, such as iamaspammer92.

Their post has no relevance to the topic or thread.

They will often have one or more spam links in the signature.

They will often end up, posting in long buried threads.

Slightly smarter spammers, are copying a previous post from the thread to appear relevant to the topic while inserting their spam links in the signature.

Some are even taking the time to tweak a relevant post - rare but I've seen them.

If you notice such spammers - please immediately use the report button to report it to a mod. Also do not respond to the post - you are helping their spam effort if you do.

We have captcha and email verification and all that but they still come.

Use recaptcha boss, if you are'nt already. Also keep some10-15 post restriction for putting links in the siggy.

Hehhe..can we catch them and expose them nakedly to the society...that will be very good! And even better if these evil creatures can be located geographically and then arrested/picked up and then put in a bamboo cage and hung at the crossroad of backstreets/alleys the middle of a busy asian fish market and occassionally poke them spammers with sharp bamboos and make them scream and soil themselves...that would be even better like Nom Phen!!

These are enemies of the Modern Society! They must be handled with a strong and cold Iron hand/Fist and nip them in buds!

Captcha is a nice ide. But amader website/forum a kono na kono staff always online thakto, so bot 2-3 minutes er beshi survive korto na. Tobu to ekhane amader kopal onek bhalo ekhane DOSS attack hoyna. Koto shanti, I love BC <3

Now, whoever got number at the end of their nick, be cautious. If you anyway post any irrelevant post in a thread, you will get caught. Only nick with number as far as i remember is 'Nadim98' but thankfully he does not post irrelevant post.

These are, unfortunately, not bots but real humans who bought into the 'how to make money' on the Internet and trying their hand. The forum code does a fairly good job if staying ahead or trying to react to the spambots.

TBH forum spamming really works for getting good result in SE Using recaptcha won't help because there are many sites offering captcha service and that is also dirt cheap. So whatever software this spammers are using having built in captcha service. Since BC is PR4, I guess this is one of the main reason for spammers to play with this forum
