Default BCB anounce's 13-man squad for first 2 ODIs

Quote:
Bangladesh squad:

Mashrafe Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shafiul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Taijul Islam, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mosaddek Hossain Shaikat, Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman and Nasir Hossain.
Not the most convincing looking squad. I would take Anamul over Imrul and Al-Amin over Shafiul Islam.

The squad looks weak. Our pace bowling which was our strength is reduced to that of the dark times: Mashrafe, Rubel and Shafiul of the 2010-11s.

And also felt Mosharraf Rubel could have been picked

I have this gut-feeling that we might end up losing a match(or even 2!). Can't afford to lose a single game, will hurt out rankings, will hurt out reputation and confidence for the upcoming ODI series against the superior English side.

Al Amin and Anamul are capable players. Shafiul and Imrul are the epitome of mediocrity. The latter may have scored some runs against Zimbabwe but runs against Zimbabwe is not an indicator of quality.

Dont know how Mosaddek make into National Team! I thought he is a nothing player given his last BPL performance. Does his OD stats earned him a call or what?

On a second thought, since its a 13 member team, may be they left room to add Taskin and Sunny/Al Amin later.

Al-Amin took 25 wickets in the DPL at an average of 23, while Shafiul took 11 wickets from 10 matches at 37.27.

Shabbir, Shakib, Nasir, Riad all performed far worse than Mosaddek in the BPL. Point is, BPL pitches were horrible to say the least.

Mosaddek is a 20 year old batsman who relies on his technique not muscle power. He has a list A average of 47 with a SR of 89. FC average around 70 to boot not that it is too relevant for ODI callup.

Unless Al-Amin is injured, it makes no sense to oust him.

He has done decently in ODIs, averages 25 though has played too few matches against top oppostion

Taskin will be added as soon as he is cleared. Sunny is not even in the 20 men pool for both the series so no chance for him. Alamin might get picked for the 3rd Odi only if Shafiul dont do well.

alamin is far far better than shafiul, but who knows shafiul might have improved a lot.

mosaddek is risin star, his inclusion is justified as an allrounder.

i think anamul would be better than imrul

rest is kinda settled

I hope Hathuru knows what he is doing. Now that he has left out AA, I don't see any death over specialist in the team.

Happy to see Taijul instead of MH Rubel. Afghanistan and England both are weaker against spin, we should capitalize on that and back our spinners to take wickets (which MH Rubel not that good at, he is more of a containment bowler).

According to Nannu in cricinfo, Al amin has fitness and "other issues"... not sure what this is about.

Mosaddek regardless of whether he gets a game or not, thoroughly deserved selection

Nannu must be high. Al-Amin was replaced by Shafiul because Shafiul is a "better-fielder" and "fitter". Wow didn't know that Bangladesh team needed better fielders instead of better bowlers. A bowler's most important criteria is bowling. Al Amin is a decent bowler, shafiul is mediocre. End of arguement.

I never saw India drop Sehwag because he was a poor fielder

AA sucks at fielding and has a bad attitude. I still don't think either issue is that bad to look over his bowling prowess.

Fielding is underrated. Currently, we only have three world class fielders – Nasir, Sarker and Shabbir. The others ain't that bad either. Shafiul isn't that bad, and should be given another chance. He ain't that bad with the bat either. It's a good squad, and hopefully, Taskin will eventually be included.

"other issues" could be the reason why AA was dropped. Lack of fitness, poor fielder excuses sound lame

To be fair to Shafiul, he showed better control in nets, as per news reports. But the guy does not have variation or bowling intelligence AA exhibits on field.

Quote:

Bowling better in the nets counts for nothing.

Al AMin is a proven performer in domestics and whatever little he played in international cricket. He is among the top 10 T20 bowlers in the ranking LOL! Obviously he doesn't deserve it but he is decent.

Quote:
